Until recently, the undergraduate information literacy program of McGill University’s Marvin Duchow Music Library consisted primarily of individual course-related presentations offered whenever the opportunity arose. While the number of students reached was large, there was no sequential development of music students’ information literacy competencies. A 2010 revision of the Schulich School of Music undergraduate curriculum provided a new opportunity for collaboration between librarians and professors to integrate an information literacy curriculum into the new course sequence. This presentation will discuss the new approach, focusing on the modular structure of one of the courses, Critical Thinking About Music, which enabled the librarians and professor to weave information literacy goals into the topic and pedagogical goals of each module. Curricular integration, which is entirely dependent on collegial collaboration between librarians and professors, has ensured a logical development of music student information literacy.
