The ERH Village
EncarnacionRegaladoHernaiz
3 hectares
120 families
The ERH village
is the pioneer
village for the
Bayan-Anihan
program.
ERH Village was
established in
2005, and is the
most stable rural
village.

ERH Village
GK has been with
ERH for five years,
and this village has
already seen
significant changes
compared to other
rural farms and
newly adopted sites.
Other villages are
not yet at par with
ERH, but ERH has
served as a model
village for other
programs to follow.

Notice the strips in
land?
This plot is solely for
vegetables. Each
family is given a small
flat where they are
given instructions how
to plant vegetables
such as kangkong,
ampalaya, kamatis
(tomatoes), and okra.

ERH Village
Each family is given
a 10 sq meter plot to
serve as primary
source of food.
The main goal of
Bayan-Anihan is for
food sustainability
on the household
level.
The long run goal of
Bayan-Anihan is to
convert small
household farmers
to large-scale
producers.

ERH Village
It just started raining
when I arrived. If I had
arrived a month
earlier, there would not
have been anything to
farm due to the
drought.
They experienced a
2.5 month long
drought! Luckily, they
had water when I
arrived, so I was able
to witness how they
plant, and I even got a
chance to work the
farm!

to know the
villagers first.

Helen: the wife of the
president of Kapitbahayan
Kapitbahayan is the
counterpart of a home
owner’s association. They
oversee that the village is
functioning properly and
peace and order is
maintained at all times.

The Cooperative Store

Kapitbahayan members
pay Php 20 monthly for
the store, and at the end
of the year they split
profits depending on how
much you’ve invested in
the beginning.
They hire an outside
accountant and pay him
Php 4,000 to do the audit
and the dividends.

It’s a sachet store! I’ll return to this
topic later with some insights

Village Store
tindahan
I interviewed the owner of the village
store.
She started when her youngest child
was in first grade. She borrowed money
from her cousin so she can start selling
candy, chips, and softdrinks in her son’s
elementary school.
When GK started building more houses
in her area, she stopped selling at the
elementary and started her own store in
the village.
Now she has fully repaid her debt, and
her two youngest children are both in
high school.
Lisel is not a GK beneficiary
Hinweis der Redaktion
The government has partnered with Bayan-anihan to give 1Mpesos for every 30 beneficiaries. The funds will be used to monitor consumption and to help make the program sustainable. Note the partnership with various academic institutions.
