                                          Valentine's Day Getaway Guide 2
Discover Big Bear Lake, CA

Have you ever dreamed to switch your surfboard into a snowboard over night? Well you can!
When you are in Southern California, the great advantage of the diverse landscape is that you
can be at the beach in San Diego, Los Angeles or Orange County one day, and in the desert or in
the mountains the next day. Big Bear is only a 3 hours drive from San Diego, and a great change
Big Bear, California of décor in just a few hours.

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit Mountain are the two ski resorts in Big Bear California. All
Fox Ontario year long the two ski resorts here in Big Bear are great places to spend a couple days. During
the summer, it is always nice to leave the warm beaches for a while and go enjoy the fresh air
1776 E. HOLT (Off Airport) of the mountains. Ski lifts are open to bring you up the mountain and take you to nice hiking
trails. In the winter you can enjoy the beautiful winter atmosphere in the white snow. The
Ontario, CA 91761 Snow Summit resort caters more to skiers, and Big Bear Mountain is a resort for snowboarders.
You can enjoy the snow park and a few nice slopes. They both are small resorts, but still very
(800) 225-4369 impressive so close to the coast!

The Solar Observatory is another great attraction in Big Bear. Who would have thought to find
the largest solar telescope of the world in a ski resort in California? Well yes, it is in Big Bear!
And it is in the Lake… wonder why? Because water prevents heat waves that could affect the
                             telescope.

                             Lodging
When visiting Big Bear California you have quite a few lodging options. There are a lot of hotels
available, as well as cabins and townhouses for rent.

Cabins are the most typical experience. They are a nice change and will give you the feeling you
are in the middle of the Swiss Alps. That's a way to enjoy your vacation! When you are traveling
in a group, renting a cabin can be an advantage, because you can share one accommodation
without sharing a room. You can find very different prices for cabins rental depending on the
location and amenities you are looking for.

There are a lot of hotel choices in Big Bear. Check online or when calling, ask for special deals.
There are lots of hotels offering the AAA membership discount in Big Bear. Also during ski
season, hotels offer special weekend or midweek deals where you can buy 2 one-day lift tickets
with a room, for a great price. You can find some information here but this is not the entire
list. Deal Base also gives great insights on special deals. The Lakefront Lodge has a lot of choices
from cabins to master bedrooms, and the best location to enjoy the beautiful Big Bear Lake in
the summer, and easy access to the slopes during the winter. Also, some of the most popular
hotels are the Vintage Lodge and Timberline Lodge, but they both have their price. Of course,
you will also find the typical hotel chains such as Best Western and Motel 6 in Big Bear.

Big Bear is a great way to experience two completely different worlds in very little time
in California. Beaches on the coast, and mountains 3 hours away! It’s amazing! And once you’re
going up the ski lift, don’t forget to look back and see the desert, it is truly breath taking!

Discover Catalina Island

Just across the bay from Los Angeles, Newport Beach to be exact, is Catalina Island. A great
                              weekend or even vacation destination.
All you need is catch the ferry to take you there. What a better idea than plan some island time
                              for a while?
Catalina Island, California Where to eat
For Breakfast on Catalina Island, we recommend the Pancake Cottage in Avalon. You probably
Fox Long Beach never had such a choice of pancake variations before! It will fill you up until you are ready to
enjoy a late lunch. Though the service is really good, make sure you plan to have time in case
9220 South Sepulveda Blvd you have to catch the ferry back to the Coast. For lunch, sit on the patio of Antonio's Pizzeria
and eat the best pizza of the Island while enjoying a beautiful view of the Ocean. And for
Los Angeles, CA 90045 dinner, if you want something fast, simple and to go, try Coyote Joes for a yummy burrito.
(800) 225-4369 But,if you want something a little more fancy, Ristorante Villa Portofino is a great fine Italian
cuisine restaurant, with a divine food, wine and dessert menu.

                              Where to stay
If you don't want to spend all your trip in and and all your money on your hotel, but you still
want something cozy and clean for the night, the Pavillon Lodge is great. It look a little
"antique" from the outside, but the rooms are clean, modern, and the staff is always happy to
help their guests! Otherwise, the most visited hotel is the Avalon Hotel of course. You get
spectacular views, the rooms are beautiful and the experience is just amazing. This hotel is the
number one of the island for its luxury, its service, and also location. Most hotels offer
different packages for your stay to combine golf, spa treatment or other with your room.
Did you pack your tent? Great! You have the choice of 6 different campgrounds on Catalina
                              Island.

                              What to do
One of the greatest attraction of Catalina Island is Whale watching! You can leave from
Newport Beach for a day trip, or take the full adventure package and go with Catalina Ocean
Rafting on an inflatable boat! It is a great fun family experience! They also offer snorkeling trips
and tours of the island. Catalina is also a great place to dive.
If you are searching for something else than building sand castle with you kids, the mini-golf
court is always a fun activity and assures you a good time.

For people that like the indoors more, Catalina Island is a great place to find a spa and relax.
And after that you can always stop for a little shopping. From craft to vintage clothing, Catalina
Island has a great selection of little shops to give you the typical island experience.
Note: Every October, you can enjoy a Jazz festival on the Island. Catalina Island Jazz Trax lines
up 30 artists from all over the world, for 3 weekends. It takes place at the Avalon Hotel. Make
                              sure to get your tickets!

So come on, board the ferry and leave the crazy city behind you for a while and come relax and
enjoy the fun, and the sun of Catalina Island!

Skiing in Lake Tahoe

There is no doubt that skiing is the number one activity that is the main attraction for anyone
who is headed to Lake Tahoe in winter. Not only did the SKI Magazine 2007 Resort Guide rate
the Heavenly Mountain Resort as the 3rd best for scenery and view, the Kirkwood Mountain
resort also got ranked at number 8 for the best snow in North America. Lake Tahoe has one of
the most concentrated of downhill ski resorts and among these are like Squaw Valley, Alpine
Lake Tahoe, California Meadows, Donner Ski Ranch and more.

Fox Oakland Things to Do
There are also some regular vacation things that you can do in Lake Tahoe in winter. Each of
7600 Earhart RD the resorts have a selection of boutiques, gift shops and markets that can be visited. The
Boatworks Mall, The Cobblestone Corner, the Village at Squaw Valley and the Christmas Village
Oakland, CA 94603 are all great places to visit.
(800) 225-4369
The holiday spot has some great dinging options as well. These include the Lone Eagle Grille in
Incline Village, Six Peaks Grille, Graham's and PlumpJack Cafe in Squaw Valley and Moody's in
Truckee. These are hot favorites for those who come back to Lake Tahoe and a visit to these
places is mandatory on a holiday after a long period of skiing.

For those who visit Lake Tahoe only for the gaming element, it should be said that there is a lot
that is probably being missed by staying indoors and late at night. But if that is what you are
looking for, then there is the Cal-Neva Resort, Crystal Bay Club and Casino, Hyatt Regency Lake
Tahoe Resort and Jim Kelley’s Tahoe Nugget to consider.

                         Getting There

Driving to Lake Tahoe is one of the most popular methods of getting there. It is an easy drive
without any hassles. If you are going to North Lake Tahoe, the interstate highway I-80 East
towards Reno and exit highway 89 South to Tahoe city is the best option. For those looking at
moving towards South Lake Tahoe, US Highway 50 East towards South Lake Tahoe would be a
                         better bet.

When driving to Lake Tahoe during winters in the snow, be careful to check the road conditions
before hand because the snow does get extremely heavy in the region. In addition to that try
and use a four wheel drive SUV. If you do not have one, renting one would be a good idea for
this terrain. Always ensure that you have snow chains (learn how to put on snow chains here)
and a snow shovel with you when you are driving up.

Valentine’s Day Romantic Getaways in San Diego

For Valentine’s Day weekend you are looking for something romantic. What can be more
romantic than the beach? San Diego is a perfect destination to show how much someone
                         means to you!

San Diego, California Imagine, first a nice breakfast with a romantic view of the ocean. San Diego has many great
breakfast places and it can be hard to make a recommendation since there are all different and
delicious. But for the romantic aspect of the weekend, Cody’s in La Jolla seems to be the best
Fox San Diego spot, with its amazing view of water.

2727 Kettner Boulevard As February isn’t one of the warmest day, a picnic on the beach or at the park might not be the
best idea. So we would suggest enjoying the ride along the coast towards Pacific Beach and
San Diego, CA 92101 take advantage of a nice walk on the beach.
(619) 692-0300 For lunch, make reservation at the Green Flash for another great meal by the ocean. Make sure
to call ahead of time as it’s a popular place. As the sun comes down early, if you want to eat
while enjoying the ocean, it is better to do it before 4, hence the romantic meal by the ocean
                         during lunch!

Then you can follow by a visit in Balboa Park, stop by the fountain, maybe the Botanical
Garden, and if you had a light lunch head toward Hillcrest for the most fantastic dessert place
in town: Extraordinary Dessert. Is there after all a better way to tell someone you love him or
her than with a delicious slice of chocolate cake!!

Finally at night, you can treat your special someone to something special and different, such as
a play at theOld Globe theater or for something even more romantic, a movie at the drive-
in where you can enjoy and share a special evening alone with everybody else!

One of the most beautiful and romantic hotel in San Diego is of course the famous Hotel Del
Coronado with its best service, magnificent rooms and ocean views. But if you prefer
something more private, and cozy, you can rent a cottage at the Crystal Pier Hotel and fall
asleep with the sound of the waves.

Valentine’s Day Romantic Getaways in San Francisco

Really, the most romantic weekend you can plan in Northern California would be in the Wine
Country of Napa Valley or Sonoma. With wine tasting, comfortable bed and breakfasts and all
the spas around, you can’t really beat that! However, you might be looking for something a bit

San Francisco, California To start the day successfully and impress your loved one, we suggest having breakfast
at Mama’s. This Breakfast restaurant is very popular in San Francisco. More than a wonderful
Fox San Francisco service, Mama’s is highly recommended for its large selection of dishes, its delicious and never
disappointing food, and the originality of the menu. However, popular, means busy, so get
780 McDonnell Road there early, or sleep in and get there later!
San Francisco, CA 94128 Then, though a lot of people recommend visiting the Fisherman’s Wharf, as romantic as it
(650) 827-1081 sounds, it’s Valentine’s Day so you need something more than just what you can do anytime!
The most important aspect of Valentine’s day is to share a day together. So why not rent bikes
and cross the bridge to go spend the morning in Sausalito. You can walk around this really cute
and picturesque city with a Mediterranean touch, enjoy the waterfront and maybe get a snack
close to the water. Then take the ferry back to San Francisco.

During the afternoon, why not try something a bit out of the ordinary and stop by the Golden
Gate Railroad Museum. I know what you’re thinking: that doesn’t sound romantic at all! But
wait! They have a great Valentine’s Day special called Romance on the Rails, which is a wine
tasting and hors d’oeuvre event. It takes place in a luxurious train car while taking you though
Niles Canyon for 2 hours. You have to make reservation ahead of time.

As mentioned in our previous Valentine’s day post, French culture is one of the most romantic
ones, so French cuisine seems pretty appropriate for a perfect Valentine’s Day romantic way to
close the day!Chapeau is the best restaurant in San Francisco for this. Elegant, romantic,

Skiing in Seattle

The Stevens Pass is a great ski area that is located at the crest of the Stevens Pass in the
Cascade Range of Washington. The base elevation of the pass is 40611 feet and the peak is at
5845 feet. The ski area was developed by Don Adams and Bruce Kehr who were also passionate
skiers. This occurred in the winter of 1937-38.
Seattle, Washington The pass offers the most interesting and diverse terrain for skiing. The quality and quantity of

Fox Seattle and Sub-Alpine Fir. The place looks like a snow wonderland after a snowfall. And the best thing
is that the temperatures in the area are around 20 degrees, something that is relatively

There are essentially two sides of the pass. The front side allows access to chairlifts like the
Daisy (for the beginner), the Hogsback, the Skyline, The Brooks and the Big Chef. There are also
3 chair lifts that are relatively higher on the front side that include Seventh Heaven, Tye Mill
and double Diamond. The backside, also called the Mill Valley is more natural and has better
scenic beauty. It has two lifts called the Jupiter and Southern Cross.

Cross Country skiing is something that is allowed and the Stevens pass Nordic Center allows
access to 28 kilometers of a groomed trail.

There is also the HuskiBus Ski Shuttle that provides service along with entertainment and a

                                          different times too.

The boarding, lodging, rentals, lift tickets, ski rentals and more can cost a fair amount of
money. A good idea to save money is to scout for coupons and discounts on the Internet so
that you can make the most of the holiday.

Those who do not care for skiing can also enjoy in this location with snowshowing, snow
mobiles and more. If nothing else playing in the snow will prove to be a great experience
thanks to the quality of the snow in the area.
