2. Introduction
• In the following slide I have looked at the
structure of similar genre music videos to the
one I will be creating. The reason being I will
be able to see how EDM music videos are
generally structured and which conventions
are featured in multiple videos which will
allow me to create a more conventional video
when the time comes.
6. Theories
• Neale's theory of repetition and difference is
significant in this as one major aspect which is
consistent/conventional in all of these videos is
the inclusion of the artist whether it be in person
(Nicky Romero & W&W) or just in name and logo
(Knife Party). This is an example of both a
similarity and difference as they all feature it but
in different ways.
• Another example of this theory is the inclusion of
themes. In both Legacy & LRAD the theme of
bullying could be interpreted whether it be from
co-workers or a controlling political group.
However the code does not appear to feature any
in depth themes.
7. Theories
• The main difference between the three is the
structure, LRAD consists of all narrative from start
to finish. The Code begins with a concept style
POV of a person free running and culminates with
a performance piece. Legacy on the other hand
intertwines the two, cutting between
performance based and narrative based on
multiple occasions. They are all examples of
repetition and difference as all three feature
examples of the classic types of music video
however each takes a different approach by using
a different style.
8. Conclusion
• In conclusion the three EDM music videos were
all primarily narrative/artistic based with artist
based or performance scenes only coming as
either accompaniment to the narrative or as a
secondary piece.
• I will use this research in my piece as a guide to
how the music video we will be producing fits
with the conventions of the genre. I will also
probably follow the same style as Legacy, in the
manner of switching between performance based
and narrative based.
