In the life of every day we can see examples of CIRCLES e CIRCUMFERENCES:
3. LA CIRCONFERENZA
THE CIRCUMFERENCE
It defines the set of points of the circumference floor who have the same
distance from a fixed point called the center
4. IL CERCHIO
THE CIRCLE
The circle is the area bounded by a circumference
5. IL RAGGIO
THE RADIUS
The radius of a circle and the segment joining any point
of the circle with your center
6. IL DIAMETRO
THE DIAMETER
The diameter is the segment that joins two points of a
circumference passing through the center and has twice the
length of the radius
7. LA MISURA DELLA CIRCONFERENZA
MEASURE OF THE CIRCUMFERENCE
Circonferenza = π d = 3,14 x d
The ratio between the length of the circumference and the length of its
diameter is constant (3,14 ) and from this one can derive the measure of the
circumference using the formula:
Circumference = π d = 3,14 x d
8. L’ AREA DEL CERCHIO
AREA OF THE CIRCLE
A= πr2
The area of the circle is obtained by multiplying the square of the
radius measurement for π:
10. MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO APPLY THE RULES AND THE
FORMULAS THAT WE EXPLAINED:
A pizza has a diameter of 40 cm
Knowing that the diameter of the topped pizza is 36 cm, we calculate the area along the edge of
the pizza:
• First, by dividing the diameter of the whole pizza for 2 we find that its radius is 20 cm, and
dividing the diameter of the part of the topped pizza for 2, we find that its radius is 18 cm
• Later we multiply the radius squared found the whole pizza and then the result for π (3.14) that
is 202 π and we get the area of the pizza: 400π
• Found the area of the whole pizza we have to find the area of the pizza topped following the
same procedure that is 182 π and the result will be 324π
• To solve the problem just then subtract the area of the area of the whole pizza pizza topped:
400π - 324π and the result will be 76 π equal to about 20% of the entire pizza.
