 Melt: (V) /mɛlt/ to become or make liquid; dissolve
 Ex. the ice melted and became water
 Snow: (n) /snəʊ/ precipitation from clouds in the form of flakes of ice crystals
formed in the upper atmosphere
 Ex: the most beautiful thing in the winter is the snow.
 Hole: (n) /həʊl/ an opening made in or through something
 Ex: the hole in the street is very large and dangerous
 Inch: (n) /ɪntʃ/a very small distance, degree, or amount
 Ex: an inch is a very short distance
 Sink: (v) /sɪŋk/ to descend or cause to descend, esp beneath the surface of a
liquid or soft substance.
 Ex: the titanic sank and many people died
 Chunk: (n) /tʃʌŋk/ a thick solid piece, as of meat, wood, etc
 Ex: a chunk of glacier breaks off and forms an iceberg.
 Sharp: (adj) /ʃɑrp/having a keen edge suitable for cutting
 Ex: the knife is very sharp
An iceberg is a large chunk of
ice broken off from a glacier .
They can be very large but
only 10 percent of an iceberg
sits above the surface of the
water.
It is characterized by a
climate dominated by low
temperatures, eternal
snow, and impressive
atmospheric and magnetic
phenomena.
Polar bears are one of the
largest predators in the
northern hemisphere. They
rule the icy area north of the
Arctic Ocean and they feed on
seals, manatees and sometimes
even beached whales
Penguins live only in the
southern hemisphere,
where they have no
natural predators on the
continent
The Arctic region is in the
North Pole and has a natural
melting cycle during which
almost half of the ice shelf
melts in summer, and then
refrozen in the winter and
return to their original size.
 The South Pole is much colder than the
North Pole. The Antarctic does not show
the same regular melting cycle because its
ice sheet is about the same size and shape
throughout the twelve months of the year.
Recent studies have also shown that the
Antarctic is melting, but not because of
natural processes, but by the effects of
global warming.
 Global warming has now caused the
melting of the North Pole and with this
we have a total imbalance in the
ecosystem, bringing with it
consequences for all living beings on this
planet. Thanks to the presence in the
atmosphere of CO2 (carbon dioxide) and
other gases responsible for the
greenhouse effect of the solar radiation
that reaches the earth is held in the
atmosphere.
Icebergs are dangerous to passing
ships because they are difficult to
detect because it usually about 90%
of the iceberg is under water. Also
the edges of the icebergs are very
sharp due to the very low
temperatures and can be easily cut
the hull boat. Look what happened
to the Titanic!
THANKS
