Unveiling Status Updates with Places
             August 25, 2011
What is changing?
Facebook is bringing places to the Status Update for even more sharing capabilities by its
users. Facebook applications on smart phones will slowly be updated and will change the
way consumers check-in or find deals at locations. The current “Places” feature on
smartphones will be phased out since it is not needed anymore. This will now provide
location tagging capability for all 700 million Facebook users regardless of device.


How does it work?
All Facebook users will have the ability
to tag a place when they post a status
update or a photo. The linked location
will directly open the Facebook page.
For example, if you write a post that
you are heading to a restaurant with a
places tag, the link will directly open the
restaurant Facebook page.

Mobile devices will now carry the check-in at the top of the
screen without needing to navigate to a different page. Any deals
present at the location will be delivered to the app. The user will
then have the option to claim the deal. A claimed deal is then
shared to the News Feed.

Facebook brings Places to Status Updates

  • 2. What is changing? Facebook is bringing places to the Status Update for even more sharing capabilities by its users. Facebook applications on smart phones will slowly be updated and will change the way consumers check-in or find deals at locations. The current “Places” feature on smartphones will be phased out since it is not needed anymore. This will now provide location tagging capability for all 700 million Facebook users regardless of device. How does it work? All Facebook users will have the ability to tag a place when they post a status update or a photo. The linked location will directly open the Facebook page. For example, if you write a post that you are heading to a restaurant with a places tag, the link will directly open the restaurant Facebook page. Mobile devices will now carry the check-in at the top of the screen without needing to navigate to a different page. Any deals present at the location will be delivered to the app. The user will then have the option to claim the deal. A claimed deal is then shared to the News Feed.
