- What is Positive Discipline? Did you know that the word discipline actually means to teach; it is synonymous with instruction. But there is a problem.
- The problem is that when we ask non-educators to define discipline the answer is always the same: “Discipline means punishment”
- You see Punishment promotes fear and shame and it is often negative, threatening, and blaming
- Since there are so many misconceptions about the term discipline and a focus on punishment, we prefer the term “child guidance” with a focus on teaching and learning.
