The document discusses Power over Ethernet (PoE) standards and technologies. It provides an overview of IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at PoE standards, including their power specifications and classifications. It also discusses unique features of Korenix PoE products, such as their patented power booster technology, priority power settings, and industrial management switches. The document concludes with a case study of using Korenix PoE switches and network computers for IP surveillance systems in public transportation buses.

9. Power over Ethernet
IEEE ratified two standards of PoE, 802.3af and 802.3at;
Cisco produced PoE equipment before IEEE standards,
therefore Cisco has seperate POE implementation;
PoE has two objects PSE (power sourcing equipment)
and PD (powered devices);
PSE (i.e. Switch) that will provide power in a PoE setup;
PD (pvz. kamera) is a device powered by a PSE and thus
consumes energy;
www.industrialconnection.eu
10. IEEE 802.3af standard
IEEE 802.3af ratified in June 2003 by IEEE organization;
PSE can provide to 15,4W power;
Input power (PD) to 12,95 W;
Max cable length = 100m
Vcable drop = 7V
Vin = 37~57V
Vout= 44~57V Pcable drop = 2.45W
Imax = 350mA Imax = 350mA
Pmin = 15.4W Pmax= 12.95W
12.95W is not enough for some specific areas & devices
12.95W
www.industrialconnection.eu
11. IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) standard
IEEE 802.3at Ratified in Sep 2009 by IEEE organization;
Power supply (PSE) to 30W~ for High power equipments ;
Input power (PD) to 25W~ for High power device;
Ethernet cabling must be up to CAT5e~;
Max cable length = 100m (cat5)
Vcable drop = 7.5V
Vout= 50~57V Pcable drop = 4.8 W Vin = 42.5~57V
Imax = 606mA Imax = 606mA
Pmin = 30.3W Pmax= 22,5W
www.industrialconnection.eu
12. Cisco PoE
PoE equipment was capable of delivering up to 10 W per
port;
The amount of power to be delivered is negotiated
between the endpoint and the Cisco switch based on Cisco
Discovery Protocol (CDP)
Cisco produced 13 devices which are not compatible
with IEEE PoE standards;
These devices can’t be updated by software, you need a
special adapter;
