Children need to understand why they are doing mathematics, why it’s important to them. For this they need a variety of real life problems to solve. Children need to have fait in themselves and have the confidence to take risks. It is important for adults not to say “I was never good at math”. Employer’s want to hire people who are confident enough to try to solve problems they have never seen before, expecially in our technological 21sr century society. Communicating about math helps children calify their thinking and demonstrates what they know.
