Organizations are continuously striving for cost efficiency by applying various world-class initiatives across the operational chain. One of the powerful micro productivity tools “Ergonomics” which is not being given much emphasis on improving shop floor productivity and safety aspects in SME organizations. One of the reasons could be a misconception that ergonomics can be applied in product design or ergonomics improvements can be administered by high level scholars or it can be implemented only by large scale organizations etc..But it has been proven in many of the SME organizations with a simplified approach of ergonomics application in shop floor, significant productivity, safety and high level of morale can be achieved in shorter timeline. This presentation will help you 1)To understand the application of ergonomics on productivity and safety improvements in workplace, 2)To learn simple and powerful methodology to assess the fatigue in workplace and implement RIGHT ergonomics solutions

Watch this as a webinar! Visit http://www.ccohs.ca/products/webinars/prevent_msd/ Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) represent 43% of all WSIB lost time injuries in Ontario. And in fact, most provincial jurisdictions in Canada report similar findings. Given that MSD hazards exist in workplaces, recognition and control of them must be an integral part of a workplace’s health and safety system. However, all too often, because of the subtle and cumulative nature of these hazards, they do not receive the attention necessary to motivate action. This free webinar will discuss how Ontario’s health and safety system has engaged its partners to coordinate their efforts to implement an MSD prevention strategy that includes access to prevention resources such as the MSD Prevention Guideline for Ontario and sector specific materials, integration into WSIB prevention services and enforcement by the Ministry of Labour. Although the session will focus on Ontario’s experience at enforcing MSD hazards through its health and safety legislation, anyone with an interest in preventing musculoskeletal hazards in the workplace will gain an understanding of the vast array of MSD prevention resources that are available. Anne Duffy is the Provincial Ergonomist for the Ontario Ministry of Labour. She has over 25 years of experience dealing with health and safety in the workplace. She is a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist. As the MOL’s Provincial Ergonomist, Anne is the senior Ministry expert on ergonomics within the Operations Division of the Ministry. In this capacity, Anne acts as a resource to Ministry staff, communicates with stakeholders and is a partner in ongoing provincial health and safety initiatives.

ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation One of the most common complications following ACL reconstruction is loss of motion, especially loss of extension. Loss of knee extension has been shown to result in a limp, quadriceps muscle weakness, and anterior knee pain. Studies have demonstrated that the timing of ACL surgery has a significant influence on the development of postoperative knee stiffness. The highest incidence of knee stiffness occurs if Acl surgery is performed when the knee is swollen, painful, and has a limited range of motion. The risk of developing a stiff knee after surgery can be significantly reduced if the surgery is delayed until the acute inflammatory phase has passed, the swelling has subsided, a normal or near normal range of motion (especially extension) has been obtained, and a normal gait pattern has been reestablished. Mentally prepare the patient for surgery Before proceeding with surgery the acutely injured knee should be in a quiescent state with little or no swelling, have a full range of motion, and the patient should have a normal or near normal gait pattern

Does your CEO understand the value of protecting and promoting worker health? Is OHS valued, prioritized and focused on as a core value within your organization? Does your CEO “get it”? That’s a question the National Safety Council poses each year for companies across the United States. The NSC has recently released the 2014 list of ten CEO’s that “get it”.

Have you been considering whether or not you should involve team members on the shop floor in the ergonomics process? Is it a good idea? View this presentation to find out what seven ergonomics experts have to say on the subject. Some of the safety leaders we talk to sometimes have questions and concerns about involving their team members in the ergonomics process. Have you had any of these same questions? What will we do if we open up the flood gate of ergonomics suggestions? Will team members have productive insights? What if we can’t accommodate team members when they want a change? These are all valid questions, and the goal of this article is to answer them with a little help from some of our ergonomics expert friends. You’ll find several common themes and hopefully a few practical takeaways. Let’s get started!

Safety culture is the number one indicator of successful injury prevention programs, as discussed in a previous blog post. But what is safety culture and how do you know where yours stacks up? According to OSHA, “Safety cultures consist of shared beliefs, practices, and attitudes that exist at an establishment. Culture is the atmosphere created by those beliefs, attitudes, etc., which shape our behavior.” By definition, safety culture is difficult to measure. How do you measure values, attitudes and beliefs? Following are 25 ways to tell whether or not you have an awesome safety culture. If you can answer yes to most of these, you’re doing great. Keep it up! If not, you have some work to do. Don’t be discouraged, culture change takes time and perseverance.
