Dr. Enrico de Divitiis is a Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery at the University of Naples Federico II School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Naples in 1959 and completed residencies in general surgery and neurosurgery. He has had a distinguished career as a neurosurgeon, researcher, lecturer, and leader in neurosurgical organizations. His clinical work focused on various neurosurgical procedures and he helped pioneer the use of endoscopy for pituitary and skull base surgeries. He has mentored many students who have gone on to achieve high academic positions.

Clinical
practice
After
internships
at
the
University
of
Naples,
Enrico
de
Divitiis
had
worked
in
Paris
for
2
years
(1963-‐1965)
to
improve
his
neurosurgical
background.
There,
he
trained
under
Jean
Talairach
at
the
Hopital
Sainte-‐Anne
and
Gerard
Guiot
at
the
Hopital
Foch,
where
he
mastered
stereotactic
techniques
and
transsphenoidal
approach
to
the
pituitary.
Enrico
de
Divitiis’
clinical
work
focused
on
broad
areas.
Having
spent
most
of
his
career
during
the
second
half
of
the
last
century,
Enrico
de
Divitiis’
clinical
work
focused
on
broad
areas.
He
has
performed,
as
occurred
at
that
time,
all
of
tipologies
of
neurosurgical
procedures
(traumatology,
brain
and
spinal
cord
surgery,
functional
and
stereotactic
surgery,
tanssphenoidal
surgery
(micro/endo),
surgeries
for
trigeminal
neuralgia,
facial
spasm
and
other
neuro-‐vascular
conflict
syndromes).
Over
the
last
few
years
of
his
career,
his
clinical
interests
have
been
particularly
concentrated
on
transnasal
approach
to
pituitary
fossa
and
anterior
skull
base,
directing
many
surgical
procedures
as
an
innovator
in
the
use
of
endoscopy
in
this
field.
He
was
invited
at
the
“King
Hussein
Military
Hospital”
of
Amman,
Jordan
(2004)
and
at
the
“Acıbadem
University
“
of
Istanbul,
Turkey
(2005)
to
carry
out
endoscopic
transsphenoidal
surgeries
on
local
patients.
He
has
organized
and
headed,
in
Naples,
a
yearly
Workshop
on
Pituitary
and
Cranial
Base
Endoscopic
Surgery
(2001-‐2008),
involving
some
of
the
most
influential
experts
and
a
large
number
of
attendees
from
all
over
the
world.
Dr.
Enrico
de
Divitiis
has
served
as
President
of
Italian
Society
of
Neurosurgery
(1996-‐1998)
and
President
of
Italian
College
of
Academic
Neurosurgeons
(2007-‐2010).
He
has
organized
and
chaired
two
National
Congress
(1998,
2006)
of
the
Italian
Society
of
Neurosurgery
(SINCh)
held
in
Naples.
