This letter serves as a recommendation for Emma Anastasia McCann. Emma studied
at DIS in the Fall semester, 2013, where she was a student in my course,
Graphic Design.
The focus of the course is to teach the students specific tools and introduce them to a
workflow that will allow them to work professionally with information Design/Graphic
Design. The content of the course is fairly complicated and requires that the students
participate actively and work hard, in order to understand how the different design fields
impact each other and their complexities. It is also important that the students learn to ask
critical questions – and to get an idea about what to do with the answers.
Emma is a dedicated and serious student who works thoroughly and with a strong focus.
She has fully lived up to all expectations for the course and has showed a very strong
commitment, not only to the subject but also to learn. She has consistently produced work
of high quality – always based on a sensitive and intelligent approach showing a desire to
really get into the core of things.
In the assignments Emma developed an innovative and creative solution not only in the
finished project themself but also in her process and development of the projects. Emma
used her great skills and educational background in physiology in a very poetic, sofisticated
and intelligent way. It was a delightful to experience how she applied newly acquired
knowledge and experimented with ways to successfully solve graphical problems in an
outstanding way.
I´m sure that her background will add a profound value to her continuing education and
work as a graphic designer.
The final project involved creating a new identity and promotional graphics for our
own institution DIS. Beside the visuel identity the students had to come up with
promotional designs as posters, interactive designs and wayfinding/signs. The course was
multidisciplinary in nature and Emma worked alongside students from a range of other
design backgrounds. It was Emma´s first time working with graphic design and she came
up with original ideas, great layouts and designs.
During the semester Emma participated in several teamwork assignments where Emma
always has a nice and very positive attitude. In addition to this, she understood how to
communicate her work and thoughts in a very clear and understandable way. In class
she shared her insight, ideas and knowledge with me and her fellow students, which
contributed to a great learning environment.
Besides working at DIS Emma managed to do volunteering work outside DIS at
DanChurchAid, a job she found herself, where she among other things also did several
graphical works for them.
I have deeply appreciated having Emma in my course and I highly recommend Emma as
a student for your program.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information of if you should have any
further questions.
Yours sincerely.
