2. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and and conventions of real media products?
3. I have chosen the title because it indicates the genre of the music, and so makes the magazine instantly recognisable as a music magazine and attract fans of that music. Across the top of the magazine I have included a small image of a band member and a list of bands featured inside the magazine as shown above. This is because in my research I have seen something similar and decided I would use the idea on my front cover.
4. For the two main images in my magazine I used a wall as the background. I though this gave the photograph a grunge look, that fits in with the style of music the magazine features. I have edited the image of the wall in the background of the image in order to make it more subtle and to match the colours of the magazine as it is on the front cover.
5. I have researched various bands of the same genre of music as my magazine to look into costume, in order to be able to dress my models appropriately.
6.
7. The costumes I have chosen the costumes to match the style of the clothes worn by bands in other rock magazines . Although many of the bands try to differentiate themselves from other bands by having their own ‘individual’ style, many of the typical styles and colours are still present. I have chosen the ever present black skinny jeans, and a black and white top with the name of a place in America on the front. Band members are often featured wearing a t-shirt with the name of another less popular band or the name of a place they maybe visit or come from. I have also included a bandana around the head as a token of ‘individual’ style. In the other image I have chosen the same bandana, a leather jacket with no t-shirt and an non descript tribal necklace.
8. Throughout my magazine I have chosen to use the same three fonts as this is usually the case in other magazines. However I have used a different font for the band name and album title on the double paged spread and for the titles of the contents page. To make them stand out from the rest of the text and also so they look good.
9. On my front cover I have made sure to include all the common conventions of a music magazine such as , advertisements for free band posters, magazine title, lead singer of a band featured inside the magazine, the price, issue number, date and barcode, lists of bands featured in the magazine and other things to expect inside the magazine such as album reviews and interviews with bands and singers.
10. I have made my contents page, double paged as I have seen this in another magazine and thought it looked good. I have included an image of the lead singer of a band featured inside the magazine as the main feature of the first page along with the names of the main features of the magazine. On the second page I have included more text, and more information on the contents of the magazine, the issue number and date and images of things included inside the magazine with page numbers. I also included a letter from the editor as I found that was also something included in most magazine contents pages of this nature.
11. Who would be the audience for your media product? How does your media product represent particular social groups?and How did you attract / address your audience?
12. My front cover model is supposed to be a 20 year old man, who is lead singer of a heavy metal band. My target audience is men of a similar age who are into heavy metal , play video games and go to rock gigs. To attract this audience I have included gig guides, reviews of previous gigs and of metal albums , interviews with metal bands an free band posters . The colour schemes of my magazine also represent this particular social group as they are the colours associated with that groups attributes, band clothes album covers ect. The fonts also attract the audience, as they are similar fonts as used in other magazines of the same nature, and so are expected by rock and metal fans, making the magazine instantly recognisable as a metal mag.
13. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
14. Patrick Napier is the producer and owner of Rock sound magazine, he works for a company Brightcove which is a record label and video platform . I believe the would distribute my media product as it is a similar magazine to rock sound and therefore they would be able to re-use similar content in both magazines as is done in companies say owning more than one gossip magazine.
15. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
16. I have used the camera pictured on the left, to take pictures of my models for on the front and inside of my magazine. Illustrator to create my title for my magazine, blog spot to upload research , Google to find images of other magazines ,a scanner to scan in the front covers of existing magazines and PhotoShop to edit my photographs and put the whole thing together.
17. Looking back on your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?
18. I have learnt a lot since the preliminary task, such as further Photoshop knowledge and editing skills . I have learnt how to edit the image correctly for my front cover how to import fonts from the internet, how to insert multiple pictures, make backgrounds and produce my own magazine name/ logo using illustrator.
