2. • The first scene I picked for my trailer was the part when R2D2 was giving the
message he had from princess Leia. I included this as I think it marks the start
of the whole adventure and also demonstrates the sci-fi genre as you would
never have a robot sending out visual messages, not in our era anyway.
During this part of the trailer I decided to keep the sound the same, ‘help me
obi wan kenobe, you're my only hope’ as I think this sums up that she is
obviously trapped and needs a hero to save her.
• I then decided to add the part when Luke is eating a meal with his parents,
and when he mentions obi wan kenobe his parents give each other a
concerned look. This would allow the audience to be intrigued to find out who
obi wan is and why he is so important as with in the first 20 seconds his name
is mentioned twice. Again I didn’t change the audio.
• Next I included the part where Luke meets his mentor (obi wan). This is also a
very crucial part as it becomes apparent that obi wan is the good guy yet
there is something strange about him- something ‘magical’. I portrayed this by
changing the background music to softer as obi wan comes along to help
Luke, like his guardian.
3. • The next part I added is the scene where luke is being taught how to use the ‘force’.
This scene is the first moment where the audience would see a light saber. This
marks a moment of power of the force which is such a huge part of the film, also
making the audience interested into what the light saber is and why is he learning
how to use one.
• I then showed the meeting of han solo as han plays a big part in the film as without
him and his ship they would have never got dragged into death star from a magnetic
forcefield. During the meeting scene I cut out most of the audio as I didn’t want to give
away what their mission was, however I included snip its like ‘I’ll get you there’, ‘what
will be my reward?’ etc.. as these type of sentences are ambiguous leaving the
viewer wanting to know more.
• The next scene I showed was much further on into the film, it was a meeting of darth
vader and the empire. I showed this at this time as I wanted to show a contrast in luke
making plans with obi wan&han to Darth Vader making plans with the empire. This
helped to symbolise the two sides- rebellion and empire.
• Following I showed the part where Luke and his team were aboard death star in
storm trooper costumes as this indicates a lot of ‘drama’ in the film. The audience will
question why they are dressed this way, what are they doing, where and they ect.
4. • Nearing the end of the trailer I wanted to skip a lot of the action
moments as I didn’t want to give away the story line because that
would make the film pointless to go and watch. So next I skipped to
Darth Vader and obi wan fighting with Lightsabers. This is a huge
moment as it starts to open up the idea of their history, it also
makes you question what they are fighting over.
• I then decided to show Luke in a space craft by himself looking
through a target to give a illusion. As Luke is now suddenly on his
own the audience may believe everyone who was with him didnt
survive however this isn't the case making the film more of a
‘surprise’.
• Finally I concluded the trailer with a explosion, without making it
clear what the explosion is as this leaves a cliff hanger however
also allows the audience to understand that there is a narrative
closure- one of the sides do win.
