Codes and conventions of a
music magazine
Ella Fielding
What is a convention?
• Conventions are the rules that are followed
and accepted when producing a media text in
a particular genre.
What are codes?
• A code is a system of symbols, letters or words
which has a certain meaning. These are used
for delivering messages requiring secrecy.
• A media text like a magazine has a message
that it wants to communicate to us, such as
convincing you to by the magazine. There are
certain methods or codes which do this.
• Codes give a message or meaning to particular
conventions.
