2. In its 32nd year, the Golden Joysticks is the
second biggest gaming awards in the industry
and is the only annual awards voted for by
gamers.
Dark Souls II took home the coveted award of
Game of the Year on the night, held at
London’s O2 Arena.
3. The Golden Joystick Awards were launched in
1983 and originally only focused on PC titles,
before extending to include console games.
Over 9 million votes from members of the
gaming community were cast for the 2014
awards and Game of the Year is voted entirely
by the general public.
4. Dark Souls II, developed by the Japanese firm
From Software, won the prestigious honour of
Game of the Year 2014.
Ubisoft Montreal, the maker of Assassin’s
Creed and Far Cry, was named Studio of the
Year.
Hideo Kojima, the Metal Gear Solid creator, was
honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award
after working in the industry for 30 years.
5. Destiny, the biggest game launch the UK has
ever seen, failed to pick up any of the 4 awards
it was nominated for.
Even though it is the most expensive game
ever to make at £310 million, Destiny left the
awards night empty handed.
Many also expected PlayStation 4 to win Best
Platform.
