How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks
1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary tasks?
2. In the real world, the production company of a film would produced
both the film and the poster, therefore they would have similar
features and be linked, however the review would have been made
by the magazine company and therefore have their own layout.
To ensure that my film and print products looked professional and
convincing, I wanted to make sure that the poster showed a correct
representation on the film, and also that the review was a realistic
viewpoint of the film. I wanted the poster and the film to relate to
one another in several ways.
3. Something that I really wanted to do was
to have a scrapbook theme throughout
my ancillary products and my film. I
thought this would make it more
personal to the audience as the theme
was a personal issue.
In my poster I incorporated scribbles on
the top, as this would add to the
scrapbook effect, and also included
images from the interviewees as if they
had been stuck into a scrapbook. Along
with the lined paper as the background
and the handwritten type font, I feel like I
have achieved the look that I was going
for.
4. In my film I have tried to keep the scrap
book theme as it would then link to the
poster. The first shot include a photo
album opening which again relates to
the poster as it includes the same
images that have been printed on the
front of the poster. This would straight
away let the audience know that the
poster and the film were from the same
film company, who were creating the
advertising and the film.
Along with this I including quotes and
the background to these quotes looked
like an old piece of paper which
connotes back to the scrapbook
theme, as if someone had saw these
quotes and written then down in a note
pad.
5. The editing in our film included a repetition of a certain transition
which gave a visual sense that someone was turning over the
pages of a scrapbook. This was included at the beginning when the
pictures and quotes were shown, that are included in the
poster, but also near the end whilst the narrator was giving a
conclusion.
6. Review
When it came to writing the
review I wanted to include a clip
from the film and also the poster
so that the reader would get a
feel to the genre just by glancing
an the images. It would be
difficult to have the same layout
and theme throughout the
review as I had for my
poster, therefore to combine the
two, I just included print screens
from my film.
7. Genre
Smiling image connotes
happiness, the love heart connotes
that romance may be involved in
happiness.
My short film has a hybrid genre, a
happiness/romantic genre and a
documentary. This would be useful
for the audience to know because it
could determine to whether they
would watch the documentary. My
Poster includes documentary
features such as the images of the
interviewees, and the caption
Happy faces
underneath suggests that its going to connote
to be something that everyone could the genre.
relate to.
8. Genre
A romantic scene, along with the
happiness shots from films again
which connote the genre, just like
the poster.
Throughout my film and the poster
I have tried to keep the genre
constant and obvious to the
audience.
