favorite ski destinations in Europe is St. Anton am
Arlberg in Austria.
Set in a valley with a town at the center, St. Anton's
best ski slopes are found on the north side of the
valley. Advanced skiers and snowboarders consider
the ski area to have some of the most varied terrain
and consistent snow in the world. In addition to 340
kilometers of pistes, visitors can try nearly 200 off-
piste itineraries encompassing 55 square kilometers
of terrain.
3. The normal off-piste runs such as Kapall and
Schindlerspitze are marked, but feature
ungroomed snow and should be attempted with
caution. The “extreme” runs are recommended
only for skiers accompanied by an experienced
guide. Fortunately, there are many options. St.
Anton is famous as the home of Arlberg Ski
School, which was established in 1921 by ski
pioneer Hannes Schneider. Today the school
employs 300 instructors and also offers some of
St. Anton’s most experienced guides.
