Tredyffrin Township Democrats
                                  January Survey
The TTDems ran a survey for the last two weeks of January to ascertain people’s current involvement level, and
what interest they might have in future participation. A total of 77 people answered the survey.

As announced at the February TTDems Monthly Meeting, the following people won $5 Panera Bread gift cards:

        Betsy Anstrand
        Liz Bligan
        Barb Elliott
        Gwenyth Lewis
        Susan Orem

Below are the questions and answers from the survey, plus a little analysis:

1. Do you subscribe to the Tredyffrin Township Democrats FLASH email distribution list?

Yes - I read everything and look forward to receiving my emails.
Yes - I don’t always read my emails from the Tredyffrin Township Democrats.
        No.
I didn’t know the Tredyffrin Township Democrats had an email distribution list.

The results indicated that fully 95% of the survey respondents read their newsletter either all or some of the time.
Here are the full results:

                                                                       I don’t use Facebook.

The results of this question are of import to the New Media Committee. Being able to use Facebook as an
“advertisement” for our web site, and as a place to make quick announcements is something that we will be doing
more and more. The question is how to easily reach those people who don’t use Facebook (34.21% of the survey
respondents.)
3. Do you follow the Tredyffrin Township Democrats on Twitter?

        Yes.
        No.
I didn’t know Tredyffrin Township Democrats used Twitter but I will start following them.
        I don't use Twitter.

The results here were striking in that more than half (56.58%) of the survey respondents do not use Twitter. If we
could get more people using Twitter by Election Day, it would be the best way to assign and re-assign resources,
alert people to possible voting problems, and to get the vote out. Certainly, this could be accomplished with text
messages, but there are specific challenges, including the lack of valid cell phone numbers, the costs involved, the
additional time necessary to reach the same number of people, and the lack of being able to share group data
within the group. Twitter is the most effective time-sensitive communication channel if people use it. The New
Media committee has a plan to get more people involved with using Twitter over the coming year.

Do you follow TT_Dems on Twitter?
                                                                         Yes.

                                                                         Township Democrats used
                                                                         Twitter but I will start
                                                                         following them.
                                                                         I don't use Twitter.
4. What is the frequency with which you vote?

I vote in the presidential election and never in other elections.
I vote in the presidential election but not often in other elections.
I try to vote in every election, or just about every election.
I would vote more, but often I don’t know when the elections are, who’s running, or what the issues are.
        I don’t vote.

The responses to this question warm the cockles of each and every political junkie heart: slightly over 97% of the
respondents vote in every election, or just about every election. The challenge for the TTDems is to get people
who are not engaged enough in the organization to answer a survey more involved. As soon as we can do that,
the likelihood is that we will be able to segue them into the 97%!

                                                                                           Series1

What is the frequency with which you vote?
5. Regarding the Tredyffrin Township Democrats:

I'm not involved because my life is way too busy and it is not a priority for me.
I would like to be more involved.
       I’m very involved.
I’m not involved because I don’t really know what the organization does.

The direct survey response set indicates that the greatest challenge is people who consider themselves too busy
to be involved and don’t consider political action to be a priority. It’s hard to ascertain whether it’s more
important to explain that being involved doesn’t take a lot of time, or if it will be necessary to explain how
political action affects every aspect of peoples’ lives.

                                           Regarding the TTDems
                                                                        I'm not involved because
my life is way to busy and
7.89% it is not a priority for me.
22.37% I would like to be more
                                                       43.42%
                                                                        involved.

                                                                        I’m very involved.
                              26.32%

                                                                        I’m not involved because I
                                                                        don’t really know what
                                                                        the organization does.

There were a lot of comments on this question. They are repeated verbatim below, with names redacted.

       Other reasons limit my involvement.
I anticipate being more involved - have helped at the polls and with canvassing in the past
Less involved lately, but plan to change that...
I was more involved, took some time off
I'm involved in women-based Dem activities
More of an Independent but registered Democrat
Hello TTDEMS! This is [redacted]. I want to answer this question honestly but there isn't an accurate
statement describing me in the four options. I'm very aware of the TTDEMS, its leadership and activities.
I'd like to be more involved but unfortunately my spare time is limited. I don't want to volunteer and then
never show up. I do consistently support the party with my votin00g record and I vote in every local and
national election. Thank you for ALL that you do for Tredyffrin Township.
I'm involved in helping with elections most of the time. This election we had illness in the family and could
       not be involved.
       I'm involved/not very/but as much as I can
Finding time is very difficult, but I support the organization.
I am quite busy with the new edition to our family. So free time is a short commodity. A few years back
we moved to Downingtown area. Dems are not as organized as Tredyffrin Dems. So I am very happy to be
able to still receive these emails.
As a newly appointed Chairperson in [redacted], I'd like to become more involved and recruit more
friends/neighbors into the TTDems.
Tried to get involved but didn't feel welcome or needed.
I'm involved as much as I want to be.
Still working several jobs, sorry!
I'm a Federal Government worker and I'm precluded at the highest levels from participating.
Not very involved. No particular reason.
I am as involved as I can be!

Do you follow TT_Dems on Twitter? Yes. 3.95% No. 34.21% 56.58% 5.26% I didn’t know Tredyffrin Township Democrats used Twitter but I will start following them. I don't use Twitter.
  • 4. 4. What is the frequency with which you vote? I vote in the presidential election and never in other elections. I vote in the presidential election but not often in other elections. I try to vote in every election, or just about every election. I would vote more, but often I don’t know when the elections are, who’s running, or what the issues are. I don’t vote. The responses to this question warm the cockles of each and every political junkie heart: slightly over 97% of the respondents vote in every election, or just about every election. The challenge for the TTDems is to get people who are not engaged enough in the organization to answer a survey more involved. As soon as we can do that, the likelihood is that we will be able to segue them into the 97%! 100.00% 80.00% 60.00% 40.00% 20.00% 0.00% Series1 What is the frequency with which you vote?
  • 5. 5. Regarding the Tredyffrin Township Democrats: I'm not involved because my life is way too busy and it is not a priority for me. I would like to be more involved. I’m very involved. I’m not involved because I don’t really know what the organization does. The direct survey response set indicates that the greatest challenge is people who consider themselves too busy to be involved and don’t consider political action to be a priority. It’s hard to ascertain whether it’s more important to explain that being involved doesn’t take a lot of time, or if it will be necessary to explain how political action affects every aspect of peoples’ lives. Regarding the TTDems I'm not involved because my life is way to busy and 7.89% it is not a priority for me. 22.37% I would like to be more 43.42% involved. I’m very involved. 26.32% I’m not involved because I don’t really know what the organization does. There were a lot of comments on this question. They are repeated verbatim below, with names redacted. Other reasons limit my involvement. I anticipate being more involved - have helped at the polls and with canvassing in the past Less involved lately, but plan to change that... I was more involved, took some time off I'm involved in women-based Dem activities More of an Independent but registered Democrat Hello TTDEMS! This is [redacted]. I want to answer this question honestly but there isn't an accurate statement describing me in the four options. I'm very aware of the TTDEMS, its leadership and activities. I'd like to be more involved but unfortunately my spare time is limited. I don't want to volunteer and then never show up. I do consistently support the party with my votin00g record and I vote in every local and national election. Thank you for ALL that you do for Tredyffrin Township. I'm involved in helping with elections most of the time. This election we had illness in the family and could not be involved. I'm involved/not very/but as much as I can Finding time is very difficult, but I support the organization. I am quite busy with the new edition to our family. So free time is a short commodity. A few years back we moved to Downingtown area. Dems are not as organized as Tredyffrin Dems. So I am very happy to be able to still receive these emails.
  • 6. As a newly appointed Chairperson in [redacted], I'd like to become more involved and recruit more friends/neighbors into the TTDems. Tried to get involved but didn't feel welcome or needed. I'm involved as much as I want to be. Still working several jobs, sorry! I'm a Federal Government worker and I'm precluded at the highest levels from participating. Not very involved. No particular reason. I am as involved as I can be!
