TRAINING : Learnt fundamentals of acting and film, theatre and television presence from Jabeen Jalil, his mother, who is a well known film star of the sixties having won the National Award in 1962 for her portrayal in the film “CHAUDHRY KARNAIL SINGH”. Divij also trained in the USA with Walter Stewart, Director of The La Jolla Stage Company, in La Jolla, CA. In India, he trained under Roshan Taneja in Mumbai. He learnt dancing from Shakoor Sheikh and has a black belt in Martial Arts (Taekwondo). Divij is a member of CINTAA (Cine & TV Artists Association).
EXPERIENCE :
Theatre : Played lead roles of “Geoffrey” in “STEPPING OUT”, a musical; “Bartley” in “RIDERS TO THE SEA”; and “Daddy” in “AMERICAN DREAM”. Worked as Assistant Director and Sound Operator for Tennessee William’s “THE TWO CHARACTER PLAY” and Jerry Steiner’s “OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY”, for The La Jolla Stage Company. In Kolkata, he played a leading role in STAGE CRAFT’s contemporary play “MANGALAM”.
Films : In his first feature film, he played the lead role, in well known lyricist Faaiz Anwaar’s directorial debut film “SAATHI”, which was released in 2005. The second film, Jabeen International’s musical love story, “PEHLI NAZAR KA PYAAR”, directed by Arshad Khan and released in 2010, had Divij starring opposite Sweety Chhabra, with Ayub Khan, Vinita Thakur, Arbaaaz Ali, Yunus Pervaiz and Tej Sapru making up the cast. The film, with spectacular visuals, shot in Shimla, has memorable music by Ali Ghani.
Divij has just completed work on his latest film, a comedy set in a haunted house: “YEH KYAA BHOOTIYAPANTI HAI”; directed by Rashid Khan and produced by Zeba Productions.
