2. The Olympic Games or Olympics are multi-sport
events in the world. Are held every four years in
two forms: Summer Olympics and Winter
Olympics
The original games date back to 776 BC when
the ancient Greeks began to celebrate in the city
of Olympia. They were religious festivals,
cultural and sporting events held in honor of the
gods

3. In 1896 the idea was
taken up by the
French nobleman
Pierre Fredy, Baron
de Coubertin, giving
rise to the modern
Olympic Games in the
Greek capital of
Athens

4. The Olympic Games
were held every four
years since 1896,
except 1916, 1940
and 1944, due to the
First and Second
World War. Greece
and Australia are the
only countries to have
attended all the
games

5.  The next Summer
Olympics be held in
London, UK, in 2012
and Winter will be
held in Sochi, Russia,
in 2014

6.  In Spain there have
been only once in
1992 in the city of
Barcelona while in
London and Athens
were held three times.

athletes in individual events and one team in the

In the closing ceremony the mayor of the city which
hosts it goes to the mayor of the next host city

holding the Olympic
torch is lit in Greece
and is transported to
the host city where
the Olympic flame will
light will stay on for
the duration of the
games.

12. The official anthem was
composed by Spiros
Samaras Greeks (music)
and Costis Palanas (letter).
Pets are signs of each host
city. The first appeared in
Ginabra in 1968 and was
called Schuss.

13.  In the opening ceremony parade all athletes starting with
the Greek and ending with the team of the organizing
country. You hear the anthem, the flag is raised and the
Olympic flame is lit.
In the closing ceremony doves are released to symbolize
peace and the spirit of the games.
