This document summarizes Callum Deighton's work on a project using Lightwave Modeler, Layout, and Adobe Premier. He acquired new skills in modeling, animation, lighting, and video editing. While his final animation differed from his original idea of a swordfighter due to issues animating the full body model, he was still able to depict someone fighting with a sword. Feedback noted the animation was well-made but textures and background could have been improved. Going forward, he would focus on usable models and spend more time on backgrounds and textures to improve visual quality.
2. Production skills you have newly acquired and existing skills you
have further developed?
During this project I mainly worked within 3
programs for the entirety of the project; Lightwave
Modeler, Layout and Adobe Premier. By working on
these programs I have acquired many new skills.
Firstly on Lightwave Modeler I have been able to
get existing models and transfer them into
Lightwave Modeler for full use. Next in Lightwave
Layout I have acquired multiple skills including how
to properly make a moving animation and all the
components on making one including using the
frames, how to make the various models work
smoothly with each other and how to use the
lighting throughout the animation.
3. Production skills you have newly acquired and existing skills you
have further developed?
Finally I’ve learned many skills in video editing via
using Adobe Premier. I have managed to learn and
develop skills in using different video render
settings as well as being able to use various tools
to edit the video itself including lengthening and
shortening the clips as well as splitting the video
into the separate parts so I can edit each clip to fit
the final video.
4. How closely your final product matches your original intentions?
My Final Outcome has nearly completely changed from the initial
ideas I had. In the storyboard and Ideas Generation I did I had a
different idea for what I wanted my animation to be as I originally
had a swordfighter performing various skills and attacks. However
when it came to the actual animation when I was animating the full
body model I had I came into multiple problems, especially with the
models skelegons so I ended up using a completely different model
of some arms and changed the perspective from watching a fighter
with a Keyblade to a first person perspective of a person fighting
with the Keyblade. However I did keep the main idea of someone
fighting with a sword which is what I wanted in my original
intentions.
5. Time management and problem solving?
I believed I was okay throughout most of my time
management apart from towards the end when I had to
change my models and reanimate the final animation.
Whilst working through the project I had a project
schedule which I would regularly check on and update
each week so I would know what I should be working
with each week and if for whatever reason I wasn’t I
would update and change my schedule to reflect this.
As for problem solving the only problem I really came
into was originally animating the character model which
as I said before I sorted by changing the final models.

6. Reaching your target audience?
I think on terms of reaching my target audience I did very good, as
my animation has a lot of elements related to different popular
video games such as the first person swordfighting which is very
reminiscent of the Chivalry series as well as the use of the
Keyblade from the Kingdom Hearts series which would have
probably drawed some attention. At the bottom of the page are
some images of some of the responses I got from my final
animation, the general consensus is that the animation itself seems
very well made but some of the details such as the textures and
background are pretty bland and could’ve looked a lot better. If I
had wasted less time on attempting to use my original model I
believe I would have been able to do this.

7. Summary conclusion of how you would respond to your project brief
if you were to do it again
If I was to do this project again I would focus
primarily knowing what models I am going to
use and what could realistically work in my final
animation. Also I would spend more time on
trying to get a physical background and getting
working, well made textures on all of my models
and make sure that it would look right. However
as for how I’ve done now although I had a few
blunders in some areas I think I made a good
animation and did the project as best as I could.
