Rhyming Poetry    During Pair-Share, we learned about the characteristics of rhyming poetry.   Rhyme  Rhyme pattern Rhythm
Rhyming Poetry- Couplet Couplets are made up of two lines whose last words rhyme. They are often silly. “Little Daddy Longlegs played in the sun,Climbing up the front steps just for fun.” ~Tickle Day: Poems from Father Goose by Charles Ghigna
Rhyming Poetry-Triplet Triplets are made up of three lines. The rhyming pattern can be AAA or ABA.    “Hugs are sweetFor hearts they are a treatThey make us feel complete” ~Marinela Reka
Rhyming Poetry- Quatrian  Quatrains are made up of four lines. The rhyming pattern can be AABB, ABAB, ABBA, and ABCB .“Pesky mosquito,Please fly away!The buzzing in my earIs spoiling my day!” ~Meish Goldish
Haiku    Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry - usually about nature. It has a certain pattern that does not rhyme. It usually describes something in nature such as flowers, trees, animals, seasons & weather. It paints a picture with words.
Haiku continued… Haiku poetry follows a pattern Count the syllables in each line of this poem. See the red berries  Fallen like little footprints  On the garden snow
Painted Poetry Painted writing is a way of placing words on paper to give a visual effect to match the feeling of the writing.  The shape expresses what the writing is about.  Use strong, colorful language to describe the topic of the poem.  Remember to think about your five senses.
Painted Poetry dancing and playing and hopping UP AND DOWN THE STREET. THE HAPPY BOUNCING BALL CAME
Cinquain A cinquain poem is an unrhymed poem consisting of five formatted lines. Cinquains do not have titles.  However, the first line serves as the announced topic.
Cinquain Poem Format Line 1: A one-word line, should be a noun. This is your subject. Line 2: Two adjectives about the subject. Line 3: Three verbs that end in –ing that are about the subject.  Line 4: Four words about a feeling of the subject. Line 5: One word synonym about subject.

Acrostic An acrostic poem is one in which the first letter of every line, form a name or a theme.The poet sticks with either short phrases or one word, which describe the subject of the poem.
Apples     Apples are yummy.Pretty and juicy.Please pick only when ripe.Light and refreshing treat.Eat them day and night.
