Dyslexia is a learning disability that affects reading and language processing. It is characterized by difficulties with words and language. Around 15-20% of the US population is affected by dyslexia or other learning disabilities. The purpose of dyslexia programs is to provide intensive, direct, and explicit small-group instruction to improve reading, writing, and spelling skills through multisensory teaching methods. Schools are required to properly assess students for dyslexia, provide appropriate instructional programs, and educate parents on the characteristics and best practices for teaching students with dyslexia.
