Only when the „emotional tank“
is filled, you can expect a child
to give his best.

6. Showing affection
Always keep in mind that children have
these basic needs:
• They long for love and security
• They long for sincere appreciation
• They long for recognition of their abilities

7. Keep in mind:
1 Criticism = 4 Encouragements
Steps:
1. Realize: What is the reason for this bad
behavior?
2. Affirm any good intention, attitude or
behavior.
3. Give clear reasons and explain:
- WHAT shall your child modify.
- WHY this needs to be modified.
- HOW can this be modified.

8. Train yourself
How can you improve these statements?
• We practiced so much, and again you got
another D in your test!
• You are always so noisy and loud!
• Stop interrupting my conversations!
• Stop spilling the food all over he place!
• Why can’t you play as nicely as your sister…
