After being in the Cosmetology industry for a few years, I wanted to switch to a career less
damaging to my health, but still supporting and encouraging others. I have a passion for making others
feel cared for and beautiful, which I was able to achieve as a hairstylist. When looking for a new career
path itwas importantforme to be able toexpandonthe skill setIalreadyhadand learnnew avenuesof
helpingothers.This,combinedwithanexposuretoaddictionandabuse withinafamilysetting,ledme to
the field of counselling.
During previous employment, I have always done my best to excel at my chosen occupation. I
firmlybelievethatyougetoutof youcareer exactlywhatyouputin,and therefore alwaystryandgothe
extra mile. Sometimes this encompassed covering shifts,working earlier or later than scheduled, and
helpingateventsheldoutside theworkplace.Thishelpedtome tokeep andmaintainmydiversenetwork.
I also welcome any opportunities to connect with others from the field, and acquire as much
understanding and knowledge as I can.
Previousemployershave alwaysstatedthatI am truthful,consistent,accountable, hardworking,
but I alsomake hard work enjoyable withabubblypersonalityandpositive outlookwheneverpossible.I
am a verypassionate individual,andverymucha “go bigor go home”type person,meaningeverythingI
do I put all my effort heartand soul into. I work well ina team dynamic,andalso do well withindividual
tasks with minimum supervision.
It is importantfor me to findan occupationthat focuseson communityinitiative.Ibelieve thatI
wouldexcel inacareer that supportsindividualsorgroupsincrisis,while alsoallowingme tobecome an
active member of the community, and helping individualsand communities connect with each other to
builda strong sense of self,community,awarenessandbelonging.Iam not onlya good leader,butalso
an excellentteammember,non-judgemental diverseandempatheticperson,andvalueopportunitiesfor
growthin myself andothers.Iwouldlove acareer that givesme the opportunitytohelpothersfindself-
acceptance, self-awareness, and a capability to set and achieve goals,dreams and personal growth in a
positive manner.
In the nextfive to sevenyears,Iplan to findmyself inacareer that incorporates all of the above
while alsochallengingme toconstantlylearnandgrow as an individual.Iaimtobe financiallystable,and
employedatanoccupationinthe HumanServicesfieldfull-time.Iwanttowake upeach morningexcited
and happy to go to work and hit the ground running.
