Amino acid (AA) digestibility of feed ingredients is necessary to feed broilers balanced compound diets. This poster shows the effects of the inclusion of a mono-component serine protease (Ronozyme® ProAct) on standardized ileal amino acid digestibility (SIAAD) of diets containing wheat of three different origins (Spain, Poland and Denmark) was evaluated in broiler chickens.

OBJECTIVE
Knowledge of amino acid (AA) digestibility of feed
ingredients is necessary to feed broilers with properly
balanced compound diets. For this reason, more attention
has recently been given to the determination of AA
digestibility of feedstuffs, recognizing that it may vary
greatly depending upon the feed ingredient. The effects
of the inclusion of a mono-component serine protease
(Ronozyme® ProAct) on standardized ileal amino acid
digestibility (SIAAD) of diets containing wheat of three
different origins (Spain, Poland and Denmark) was
evaluated in broilers.
MATERIALS & METHODS
Animals: 6 x 8 male broilers (Ross PM3) / treatment
Diets:
Diet 1 was Nitrogen-free diet (NFD) to be used for estimating
endogenous nitrogen and amino acids losses
Diets 2, 3 and 4 were experimental diets in which wheat from
three origins (Spain (S), Poland (P) and Denmark (D)) was the
only source of dietary protein included at 94.5 %
Diets 5 to 8 were the same as diets 2 to 4, with the protease
Ronozyme® ProAct added at 15000 PROT per kg feed (= 200
mg/kg)
Feeding: mash, ad libitum
Duration: day 20 to day 24 of bird age
Parameters: standardized ileal amino acid digestibility (SIAAD)
calculated using the formula given by LEMME et al.(2004)
Statistical analysis: ANOVA followed by Newman-Keuls test

Protease:
Figure 2:Efficacy of protease in improving SIAAD in broiler
chickens fed experimental diets for Wheat from Denmark
The protease improved standardized ileal digestibility of N, Met, Cys, Lys,
Thr, Val, Ile, Arg, Ser, His and Asp (main effect).
The effect of protease and its magnitude varied among amino acids and wheat
origin. The addition of protease was effective in improving the SIAAD of wheat
from Poland and Denmark.
However, there is no obvious reason why the protease supplementation resulted
rather in contradictory effects in case of wheat sourced from Spain
