     And 77% feel the biggest obstacle they
      have in helping students - is students failure
      to understand the commitment and time
      needed to learn the skills to look for a job!

  • Over 60% of seniors either NEVER visit the career
    center or visit 1 or 2 times
  • Average grad will take nearly 8 months to get a
    job
  • 53 percent of those under 25 with a degree are
    either under employed or unemployed?

What is Shared Services?

   Shared services refers to the provision of a
   service by one part of an organization or group
   where that service had previously been found
   in more than one part of the organization or
   group.

   Thus the funding and resourcing of the service
   is shared and the providing department
   effectively becomes an internal service
   provider. The key is the idea of 'sharing' within
   an organization or group.

How to use Shared Services in Career Services

  • 4. We believe… 1. Culture on campus should focus on careers 2. Students need to take ownership of their career the minute they arrive on campus 3. Every grad should have a job by graduation day (that wants one!)
  • 5. You Are Not Happy! Career Center Professionals  48.1% thought students did not have the knowledge they need to find a job.  55.7% felt students resumes were not professional enough to use for their job search.  And 77% feel the biggest obstacle they have in helping students - is students failure to understand the commitment and time needed to learn the skills to look for a job!
  • 6. Can We Do Better? • Over 60% of seniors either NEVER visit the career center or visit 1 or 2 times • Average grad will take nearly 8 months to get a job • 53 percent of those under 25 with a degree are either under employed or unemployed?
  • 8. What is Shared Services? Shared services refers to the provision of a service by one part of an organization or group where that service had previously been found in more than one part of the organization or group. Thus the funding and resourcing of the service is shared and the providing department effectively becomes an internal service provider. The key is the idea of 'sharing' within an organization or group.

In “Disrupting College,” Clayton Christensen and co-authors argue that the escalating cost problems in higher education spring from “conflated business models.” A conflated business model is when an organization juggles too many ways of bringing in revenue, making it difficult to balance them all effectively. Ultimately, this leads to administrative overhead and other inefficiencies.
