Craft Demonstration
The craft processes play a critical role in development
and understanding of a craft; hence the demonstration
of techniques is taken as a first step in understanding
the tactile aspects of craft. Design Innovation and
Craft Resource Centre (DICRC) conducts various
workshops and program where the demonstration
of craft techniques and process is the key to build
a deep bond between craftspeople and the society.
It is also a method to share knowledge and aware
the people about our rich traditions of craft and
embed deep value about it. DICRC will arrange for
bringing and setting up Craft Demonstration for
three sets of material - Metal, Wood and Bamboo.
The craftspeople will be called from Gujarat, Andhra
Pradesh or Orissa and Possibly Maharashtra. These
craftspeople will show their skills and talent through
the live demonstration and display of their products.

It is important to make various people, society aware
about the value of our rich craft traditions. One of
the intentions of Design Innovation Craft Resource
Center is Resource Building and Dissemination which
aims at disseminating through various mediums like
exhibitions, panels, online and print media. The intent
is to reach out to people and make them aware of
our rich legacy of crafts and also to share the work
we do. The DICRC, CEPT Pavillion will showcase
the extensive work done at Design Innovation and
Craft Resource Center (DICRC), Faculty of Design
at CEPT University, Ahmedabad. The exhibition
will be centered on core focus areas of DICRC :
Research and Documentation, Innovation and
Development, Education and Training, Application
and Collaboration. It will also exhibit the work done
by students and faculty members at Faculty of
Design, CEPT University.

Partner Organisations
Craft Traditions in India represent the cultural ethos
of the society from which they originate. Since
craft is an extension of culture of the community,
it is a vital medium to communicate and sustain
our own Indian culture. Crafts have been believed
to exist, ever since the origin of mankind, and the
craft traditions have been continued since then.
The Garvi Gurjari National Craft Fair and Summit
2014 celebrates the rich craft traditions of India and
National Craft Seminar will look at the diversity. The
rich legacy of craft traditions needs to be continued
and passed on to the future generations. This
seminar looks forward in the future and attempts
to redefine such continuing craft traditions. The
seminar will discuss topics like Craft Mapping, Craft
Design Innovations, Building Crafts, Marketing
and Branding, Technological Advancements, and
Education and Skill Development.

The National Craft Seminar 2014 - “Paramparaa:
Future of Craft Traditions” is a part of the seven
day long, ‘Garvi Gurjari National Craft Fair and
Summit 2014’ from 21st to 27th February, 2014
at Ahmedabad organised by Ministry of Cottage
Industries, Government of Gujarat, India. The
seminar will be conducted and organised by Design
Innovation and Craft Resource Center (DICRC), CEPT
University, Ahmedabad who is the Partner Institute

About the organizer
Design Innovation and Craft Resource Centre
(DICRC), CEPT University, India functions as a research
centre for the development and understanding
of Indian Crafts (SMC – Space Making Crafts and
Surface Narrative Crafts) related to Traditional and
Vernacular Buildings of India. Its one of the objective
is to integrate the traditional knowledge and craft
practices in current Interior-Architecture sector as
well as design education. It has five major focus areas,
which are Research & Documentation, Innovation and
Development, Education and Training, Application
and Collaboration and lastly Resource Building &
Dissemination. Its main activities are to conduct
dedicated research, documentation and organize
programs, workshops and projects related to Craft
and Traditional and Vernacular Interior Architecture.
The Seminar will be divided into two sessions covering
five diverse topics. Each session will be of 30 minutes
and after three sessions there will be a question
answer session. The question answer session will
focus on the larger issues or queries related to the
subjects discussed in the presentations. Towards the
end, a panel discussion will be done to conclude the
larger issues discussed during the seminar.
