Late 2007/ early 2008: pilot with seven
publishers and technology partner iParadigms

November 2013: >500 CrossCheck
publishers
4. What is it?
•Not plagiarism detection!
•iThenticate text comparison software
from iParadigms
•Software that analyses and compares
text
•Database of content to check against
5. Getting Started
• Signed license agreement with iParadigms
• Set-up content to be indexed and included in
the CrossCheck database
• iThenticate software crawls publisher
website
• Other iParadigms users can detect if
someone is plagiarizing ‘your’ content, even
if you haven’t started checking documents
6.
7. How Does it Work?
• Upload document
• A similarity report is produced – percent
of document that matches other
content in the database.
• Reports where the similar content
comes from and can show the
matching content side by side and in
context.
• Make a judgment on whether there has
been a case of plagiarism
Welcome & Intro – what the session. I will be giving a brief intro to one of CR’s products, our plagiarism screening service CC.
CC is not a plagiarism detection service. CC is a plagiarism screening service that uses the iThenticate text comparison software that was developed by iParadigms. CC publishers are able to check and compare their documents against database of full text articles.
CC is a service for scholarly and professional publishers and publishers must join CrossRef or be an existing CR publisher member to sign up for CC. The first step is for members sign a license agreement with iParadigms to use their system. The next step is for the publisher to enable their content to be crawled by iParadigms; CR will tell iParadigms precisely what to crawl by providing a list of DOIs which point only to the DOI-indentified content. iParadigms is immediately informed of new content when DOIs are added. Even you aren’t ready to start checking documents, once your content is listed in the DB, other users can scan their documents and compare them to your content and detect if someone is plagiarizing ‘your’ content.
How does CC work. A user will upload the document they wish to check using the web-based iThenticate tool and chose to check against the CC database. The system will produce a ‘similarity report’ which shows the percentage of the document that matches other content in the DB, It will also show where it comes from, and gives a side by comparison with the matching content. At this point, an editor can review this matching content and can make a judgment on whether there has been a case of plagiarism.
The following are accepted formats for uploading your documents. As well as copy and paste option.
There are a number of reasons why a publisher would wish to use a plagiarism screening tool.
