7. AIDS is the most pressing global medical concern of our time. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and its counterpart AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) have been a large part of the reason why there are more than 140, 000 people that die in Sub-Saharan Africa every week. AIDS has no cure; only the faith of the African population and the willpower of mankind are available at the time to combat the virus. Prevention and awareness campaigns are organized to spread awareness both in Africa and globally to bring attention to the dangers this plague possesses. The UN has even made combating HIV/AIDS one of the 8 Millennium Development Goals, and funds UNAIDS; an international organization overseeing the advancements made on the disease.
