Checklist to a Brilliant Career
• Getting and Staying to the top
– Always work for the winners, recruit excellent
people, be loyal, be ready to make firm even if
unpopular decisions, ensure broad support and
seek challenges.
• Changing jobs
– Never leave decisions too long: its better taking risks now
than later. Change your jobs if you have peaked too
early. Regularly update your C.V. Consider experiencing
other industries.
• Creating the right Image
– Build a strong team to complement your skills. Support the efforts of
more junior managers. Never publicly deprecate your competitors.
Make sure your values relate to the industry. Develop Public
relation skills
• Managing your Job and your Career
– Be realistic about your ambitions, strengths and weaknesses. Don’t be over
ambitious. Start outline planning early in your management career. Keep
your own counsel; be wary of trusting unless you are sure of your trust, be
careful of your reputation. Keep close to your mentor.
