2. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord
• The first part is a Coptic tradition.
• John 14:13- Evidence for the part.
• “We have this verse in The Lord’s Prayer from
a Mediaeval Manuscript (13-15 Cen.) from the
Coptic Museum in Cairo, it is the Agpeya. We
read in the Coptic and Arabic text of the Lord
Prayer, the last verse: “Through Jesus Christ
Our Lord.” This means we have this verse
from at least the 15th Century.”- Coptic
Theologian Dr Magdi Awad

4. Your Kingdom Come
• Kingdom- we are constantly reminded of where
our home is.
• "If you are a Christian, no earthly city is yours. Of
our City 'the Builder and Maker is God.' Though
we may gain possession of the whole world, we
are but strangers and sojourners in it all! We are
enrolled in Heaven: our citizenship is there! Let
us not, after the manner of little children, despise
things that are great, and admire those which are
little." -St. John Chrysostom
5. Where is the Kingdom Of God?
• “Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the
kingdom of God would come, He answered them and
said, “The kingdom of God does not come with
observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See
there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”-
Luke 7:20-21.
• “The kingdom of God being within us, means that joy
that is implanted in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. For
that is, as it were, the image and pledge of the
everlasting joy with which in the world to come the
souls of the Saints rejoice.”- St Gregory of Nyssa.
6. • “Thus it is clear that he who prays for the coming
of God’s kingdom prays rightly to have it within
himself, that there it might grow and bear fruit
and become perfect. For God reigns in each of his
holy ones. Anyone who is holy obeys the spiritual
laws of God, who dwells in him as in a well-
ordered city. The Father is present in the perfect
soul, and with him Christ reigns, according to the
words: We shall come to him and make our home
with him.”- Origen On Prayer.
7. How do I get there?
• "Enter eagerly into the treasure house that lies
within you, and so you will see the treasure
house of heaven: for the two are the same, and
there is but one single entry to them both. The
ladder that leads to the Kingdom is hidden within
you, and is found in your own soul. Dive into
yourself and in your soul you will discover the
beginning of the ladder by which to ascend."-St.
Isaac the Syrian
• To attain the kingdom of heaven we must follow
Matthew 5:20.
8. Please explain!
• "'Unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the
scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the
kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 5:20). What does 'exceed'
refer to? In the first place, we must believe not only in
the Father, but also in His Son now revealed; for He it
is Who leads man into fellowship and unity with God.
In the next place, we must not only say, but we must
do; for they said and did not. And we must not only
abstain from evil deeds, but even from the desires after
them. Now He did not teach us these things as being
opposed to the Law, but as fulfilling the law, and
implanting in us the varied righteousness of the Law."-
St Irenaeus.
9. What Power?
• “O Lord, You alone of all the powerful, defeated sin,
the world and the devil, while all others were too weak
to resist sin. “For she has cast down many wounded,
and all who were slain by here were strong men.”-
Prov 7:26. As it is said in the Holy Bible: “They have
all turned aside, They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good, No, not one.”- Ps. 14:3
• But You God, You are the Only One who challenged
the world, saying, “Which of you convicts Me of
sin.”(John 8:46).”- H.H. Pope Shenouda III, For Thine
is the Power and The Glory.
10. • Power comes from God alone.
• Power over nature, creation, man and most
importantly sin.
• “Thus He not only frees you from the dangers
that are approaching thee, but can make thee
also glorious and illustrious. For as His power
is great, so also is His glory unspeakable, and
they are all boundless, and no end of them.”-
St John Chrysostom.
11. And the glory…
• God’s glory is a radiance of His holiness and
infinitely worthy perfections.
• “The glory of God gives life; those who see God
receive life.”- St Irenaeus
• The last part is praise to God. Why?
• Praise is the highest level of prayer.
• God doesn’t need praise from us, there’s hosts of
the heavenly doing that. Rather we give Him His
rightful titles and glory.
12. Evidence
• “For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and
the glory, since if His be the kingdom, none need
fear, since even he who fights against us, must be
His subject. But since His power and glory are
infinite, He cannot only deliver them evil, but also
make glorious.”- St John Chrysostom.
• “A son honours his father, And a servant his
master. If then I am the Father, Where is My
honour? And if I am a Master, Where is My
reverence? Says the LORD of hosts.”- Mal. 1:6
13. • “Blessed are You, LORD God of Israel, our Father,
forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness,
The power and the glory, The victory and the
majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is
Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are
exalted as head over all. Both riches and honour
come from You And You reign over all. In Your
hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to
make great And to give strength to all. “Now
therefore, our God, We thank You And praise
Your glorious name.”- 1 Chron. 29:10-13.
14. • “Yours is the kingdom has reference to Your
kingdom come, that none should therefore
say, God has no kingdom on earth. The power,
answers to Your will be done, as in earth so in
heaven, that none should say thereon that
God cannot perform whatever He would. And
the glory, answers to all that follows, in which
God's glory is shown forth.”- St John
Chrysostom.
15. Forever and ever.
• “And every creature which is in heaven and on
the earth and under the earth and such as are
in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard
saying:
“ Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”- Rev.
5:13
• Hos Erof
16. Amen.
• “Amen, which appears here at the close, is the
seal of the Lord's Prayer.”- St Jerome.
• “This petition with which the Lord's Prayer
concludes is of such extent, that a Christian
man in whatever tribulation cast, will in this
petition utter groans, in this shed tears, here
begin and here end his prayer. And therefore
follows Amen, by which is expressed the
strong desire of him that prays.”- St Augustine.
17. Conclusion.
• "The honour of God in the "Father", the
witness of faith in the "Name", the offering of
obedience in the "Will", the remembrance of
hope in the "Kingdom", the petition for life in
the "Bread", the complete admission of our
sins in the prayer to "Forgive", the watchful
fear of temptation in the "Lead us not...", and
no wonder. Only God could teach us how to
pray to Him."- Tertuillan, On Prayer.
