PersonalStatement
As a motivated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable soon-to-be University graduate, I hope to
move into the field of music journalism, particularly as a freelance writer. My long term goal
of becoming a reviews editor is encapsulated by my strong and diverse experience in
editorial roles, meaning I possess and continue to develop key skills in PR relations, team
co-operation and organisation.
Experience
Audio Addict - Reviews Editor, Contributor
July 2014 - Present
This magazine and website allowed me to further developed my skills in assigning albums
and press passes, controlling the quality of the content, communicating with PRs and
implement new communication methods with writers.
Up The Monitors - Features Editor, Contributor
February 2014 - May 2014
For this publication, which I started up alongside a team, my duties included interview
management, thinking of creative content and video content creation
Stylus - Reviews Editor, Contributor
October 2013 - May 2014
For Stylus I was part of the team who established this website, where my duties included
securing albums, press passes and interview s as well as organising content.
Electric Banana - Contributor
May 2013 – December 2013
For Electric Banana I was commissioned weekly album reviews and pitched interview ideas.
Livewire Magazine - Editor, Contributor
December 2011 - April 2012
As Livewire Youth Music project's in house journalist, I created their first magazine. My
duties for this included taking on all editorial roles, design, distribution and management of a
team.
Plymouth Herald - Contributor
October 2011 - March 2012
For three months I covered a Battle Of The Bands competition, getting my pieces published
weekly in Plymouth's local paper. Afterward I continued to produce live reviews and live
previews.
Skills
Education
 Currently a Third Year Music Journalism student at Southampton Solent University
 Three A Levels in English (B), Media Studies (B) and Religious Studies (C)
 11 GCSE ranging from A-C grades
Interest
 Music: I spend a large amount of my time exploring and reading about music and have
therefore developed a keen interest in a diverse array of music genres, in particular
synthpop, shoegaze and hip-hop.
 Music Creation: I'm very passionate about creating my own music, focusing mostly on
my guitar, but I also enjoy playing my synth and melodica.
 Video Games: My enjoyment of video games also allows me to turn my attention to other
forms of media, which has simultaneously strengthened my interest in other forms of
journalism.
 Animals/Nature: This interest has led to me becoming incredibly passionate about
causes such as animal welfare and preservation of natural areas, which I love to explore.
