1. What is the Main Street Program?
A Main Street Program is a collaborative effort between the
public and private sectors focused on the revitalization and
restoration of the downtown commercial core. The program
is designed around the Main Street Four-Point Approach ®
Organization, Promotion, Design
&
Economic Restructuring

2. ORGANIZATION
 The Organization committee plays a key role in keeping the
board, committees, staff and program-of-work in good shape
by attracting people and money to the organization.
 The Organization Committee is responsible for managing the
financial and logistical aspects of the organization.

3. PROMOTION creates Fun
and Excitement
The Promotions Committee Sells a positive
image of Downtown Commerce’s unique
characteristics to shoppers, investors, new
businesses, and visitors.

4. DESIGN
Means getting Downtown into top physical
shape. Capitalizing on its best assets

Banner Program, Flowers, Seasonal
Decorations
Historic Preservation Planning
Design Guidelines, Preservation of Historic
Buildings, Education through special events
and literature such as the Walking Tour.

5. ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING
The Economic Restructuring Committee identifies
new market opportunities for the commercial
district. There are five major responsibilities for the
Economic Restructuring Committee.
• Learning about the district’s current economic condition and identifying opportunities
for market growth.
• Strengthening existing businesses and recruiting new ones.
• Finding new economic uses for traditional Main Street buildings.
• Developing financial incentives and capital for building rehabilitations and business
development.
• Monitoring the economic performance of the district.
