Different types of cloud computing services have emerged to meet varying needs; consumer web applications prioritize costs and performance while complex simulations require more resources, and integrating software-as-a-service brings new requirements. While virtualization separated services, software, and hardware, cloud computing recombining them in different configurations for different use cases. Managing this transformation challenges IT leaders as strategic issues change every six months but infrastructure updates take around ten years, underscoring the need for methodical project management approaches to handle increasing complexity in cloud computing.
