27. Helping the President.... THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH The president can’t do it alone – has a lot of agencies that help. They fall under 4 categories; Executive Office of the President Executive Departments Independent Agencies Government Corporations
28. EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT (EOP) Works directly for the president White House Staff – helps advise the president day-to-day. Important people include Chief of Staff and his Press Secretary
29. National Security Council (NSC) - Joint Chiefs of Staff -National Security Advisor -Secretary of State -Secretary of Defense -sometimes the VP Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Helps the president write the Budget

Executive Agencies Under direct control of president – can hire and fire National Aeronautics & Space Agency (NASA) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
31. Regulatory Commissions Primarily watch over American business and economic activity. Sitting Presidents select the heads of these agencies but its harder to remove – creates a level of independence. SEC – Security and Exchange Commission Federal Reserve FCC – Federal Communications Commission
