Chompā€™s App Search Analytics Report!

ChompŹ¼s technology powers the most advanced search engine for native and web apps across the
worldwide iOS and Android markets. The metrics outlined in this report provide insight into app search
trends across iOS and Android using ChompŹ¼s on-device search functionality within the US during the
month of May.


Chomp for Android launched on February 28, 2011. Android and iOS metrics included in this edition of
App Search Analytics refers to data collected May 1 - 31 but references previous months for trending
and comparison purposes.

The query for Ź»bibleŹ¼ made a strong showing in the month of May, especially leading up to the
predicted rapture on May 21st. There are 1,700+ bible related apps across both app stores.

App Search Analytics
Top Queries
After seven straight months of non-app name query domination, app names make headway with 11%
growth across iOS and Android. 13 different game varieties including Ź»adventure gamesŹ¼, Ź»shooting
gamesŹ¼ and Ź»board gamesŹ¼ appear in the top 25 lists.


App Monetization
Paid app downloads on Android increase 2% but decrease by 1% on iOS. App sales prove a worthy
strategy for developers with paid apps; Camera+ reduces from $1.99 to $0.99 and earns the #1 spot on
the iOS Chomp 55. Coincidence? We think not!


Best in Category
Android users want utilities at the same rate as entertainment while trends on iOS remain consistent.
Top three categories across both platforms are entertainment, games and utilities...though not
necessarily in that order.

Five (or more) of the top 10 ten Chomp 55 apps are paid for the third month in a row (iOS).

 App Search Demand Persists Beyond Weekends
 The snapshot below compares Chomp app search trafļ¬c over a seven day week to a graph released by
 Google via their Inside Search event in June. While GoogleŹ¼s mobile web trafļ¬c peaks primarily on
 weekends, Chomp trafļ¬c skews high during both early and late days of the week.

 Chomp Searches Stay Consistent Throughout the Day.
 Below is a side-by-side comparison of Chomp hourly usage and mobile web browsing via Google. With
 gradual searches in the morning and peaks between 1pm and 11pm, the timing of usage across Chomp
 illustrates less variance in usage patterns than the Google mobile web graph.

CURRENT EVENT APP SEARCHES


App queries correlate with real time events.
May marked predictions of a rapture and subsequent trending app queries for Ź»bibleŹ¼. The highest
trafļ¬c day occurred on May 20th, one day prior to the predicted rapture. Similar queries such as
Ź»biblesŹ¼ resulted in similar daily trafļ¬c patterns throughout May.

The snapshot below represents the top queries and subsequent app downloads on select
countries around the globe through the Chomp app on Android. Top queries in Saudi Arabia infer

On Chomp, only 5% of all Android Downloads were paid, a 2% increase over April. The $0.01 - $5
prices points grew by a combined 1.8% with the $1.00 range earning a 0.9% overall increase. The paid
app with the highest number of referrals was Beautiful Widgets for 1.99.

Developers offering paid iOS apps saw downloads decrease by 1%, compared to April. The $.99
price point has grown a combined 2.4% since April. While on the whole, apps priced above $14.99
decreased by .4%, the $31.99 segment represents 35% of the Ź»OtherŹ¼ price points ($16.99 - $899.99).

Games hold strong but Ź»utilitiesŹ¼ evens the score with Ź»entertainmentŹ¼. Other positive trends
occurred in books (+1.3%), travel (+.4%), business (+.4%) and education (+.2%). The category
with the highest loss was games (-2.0%).

Category rankings on iOS stay consistent. While entertainment and games continue to capture
41% of the category market share, medical, ļ¬nance and weather remain on the bottom three
positions with only 1.7% of the combined total. Shifts occurred only between books and news.

A N A LY T I C S H I G H L I G H T S U M M A R Y App Search Analytics Top Queries After seven straight months of non-app name query domination, app names make headway with 11% growth across iOS and Android. 13 different game varieties including Ź»adventure gamesŹ¼, Ź»shooting gamesŹ¼ and Ź»board gamesŹ¼ appear in the top 25 lists. App Monetization Paid app downloads on Android increase 2% but decrease by 1% on iOS. App sales prove a worthy strategy for developers with paid apps; Camera+ reduces from $1.99 to $0.99 and earns the #1 spot on the iOS Chomp 55. Coincidence? We think not! Best in Category Android users want utilities at the same rate as entertainment while trends on iOS remain consistent. Top three categories across both platforms are entertainment, games and utilities...though not necessarily in that order. The snapshot below represents the top queries and subsequent app downloads on select countries around the globe through the Chomp app on Android.
