1. Mise-en-scene/Lighting
• Strobe lights.
• Smoke.
• Instruments.
• Long hair (pony tails).
• Use of lighting to make
shadows in the background.
• Dull environment/lighting.
Camera Work:
• Extreme close ups.
• Editing is quite slow
motion.
• Wide shots of the
room.
• Upside down
camera editing.
• Special effects.
Use of instruments in the
background, but nobody
playing them.
Special affects and upside down camera
work could back up the lyrics of the
songs by saying that ‘without you’
everything is upside down and
abnormal.
Ends with him repeatedly
spinning with the guitar
and stumbling off stage,
again indicating the
struggle ‘without you’.
2. Songs always seem to be
slow/calm.
Videos usually match the
tempo of the music,
slow, if the songs seems
dull and depressing the
video editing tends to
match it.
Camera work:
• Close ups.
• Jump shots.
• Special effects.
• Wide shots.
• Use of pans.
Camera work indicating
the band Oasis doing
drugs, quite warped,
lots of spins, zooms
etc.. Suggests that the
band members often
felt funny like the
camera affects.
Zooms in a lot on the instruments,
indicating that they are a band.
Quotes in the songs
back this up also,
“We were getting
high”.
Ends with them all
passed out/asleep
on the floor,
suggests that the
songs is very ‘chilled’
and the editing of
the video also
suggests quite a
calm environment.
3. Beyoncé
- Crazy In Love ft. JAY Z
Video links:
• Women never have a lot of
clothes on.
• Men are always all over women.
• Women do the same sort of
sexual dance moves.
• Men always seem empowered,
women do what they say, dance
around them.
Camera Work:
• Close up shots mostly of
women.
• Group shots women hovering
around men.
• Group shots with the main
singer in the middle, indicates power.
• Wide shots mostly with the
house in the background shows the
main singer is rich :Usher-Burn.
Ends with them looking out of
breath, as throughout the song
they use quite fast, upbeat but
sexual dances.
• Fast pace camera shots: indicates the fast
dance routines.
• Extreme close ups on faces: shows sweat on
their faces.
4. Camera work:
• Camera shots looking at it from
their point of view, also another
persons point of view looking down
on the singers face.
• Special affects that make the room
spin and seem very warped.
Special affects give an
indication of the use of
drugs (being spiked).
Stereotypically it would be men
to spike the woman's drink and
get them home, however, it
makes a change for the woman to
be taking advantage of the male
(Chris Brown).
Atmosphere/background is very children
like, colourful and seems like a play area
type. Use of illuminous colours and glow in
the dark stuff, looks like a fun house with
the mirrors etc.. Doing all different types of
special effects, again linking back to
drugs/being spiked.
Girls being not covered up
that much and wearing quite
sexual clothing or little
clothing, links back with R&B
music videos.
Mise-en-scene.
• Lights-colourful.
• Costumes for females:
sexual, not much
clothing.
• Costumes for men:
plenty of clothes, very
covered up, however in
one section shows off
his body.
5. Camera Work:
• Close ups, specifically of them
kissing.
• Pans: with the animals running
in the background.
• Close ups on Taylors red lips.
• Always close ups on the
females make up.
• Hand held camera work in
‘Cool for the summer- Demo
Lovato’ :getting the audience
to believe she’s recording it
herself.
Always seems to be a romantic story with
male and female. However, also a
disagreement and then they always end
happy.
Song links with the video: as the video
is Taylor and the man filming it also
shows their life out of filming, showing
that they still like each other.
Mise-en-scene:
• Again, not much clothing
on the females.
• Taylor is always nicely
dressed and well
presented.
• Lighting-bright but giving
off a dusty affect as it is
suppose to be filmed in
an African desert. –
Wildest Dreams.
• Lighting is very bright
also, but colourful-Cool
for the summer.
