3. 1. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COMPUTER
AGE
 A the beginning of the computer age: people
want their computers to talk to them.
 Nowadays: Windows finally can be activated to
read the document for us.
 Two common ways are Adobe Reader and
Microsoft Word.

4. 2. USE ADOBE READER TO READ
PDF DOCUMENTS TO YOU
There are 4 steps:
• Step 1: Install Adobe Reader (if you do
not have one.)
• Step 2: Open your PDF file
• Step 3: Click view Read Out Loud
Activate Read Out Loud.

5. • Step 4: After activation, you choose
any option as shown in picture and
can order Adobe Reader to read
document for you.

6. 3. TEXT TO SPEECH WITH MICROSOFT
WORD
There are 4 steps:
• Step 1: click on the small
arrow located in the Quick
Access Toolbar and find the
words More Commands…

7. • Step 2: In the top box, switch the
command type from popular
commands to all commands.

8. • Step 3: In the second box,
find and click on the word
speak . Then choose add .
• Step 4: There will be a small
message box on the quick
access toolbar. You highlight
the words or paragraphs that
you want computer to read
and then click on that new
message box.

9. 4. ADJUSTING VOICE SETTINGS
There are 2 steps:
• Step 1: Press Start button,
type Narrator, and click on the
icon that shows up.
• Step 2: click on Voice Settings
button and edit the Speed,
Volume, and Pitch till you get a
voice you like. Click OK Exit.

10. 5. CONCLUSION
Using the text to speech functionality of computers can
 save a lot of time if we need to study for tests, read books,
review reports;
 help if we are just too busy to sit down and read something;
 reduce the rate of eye impair by computers since we do not
have to sit in front of the computers so long.
