Saturday Reading Club!
R2K is dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading. They coordinate reading clubs at
elementary schools in downtown Los
Angeles.
R2K holds College Spirit Day to
encourage students to think about
college. Please wear your Bruin Gear!
We will have the opportunity to discuss
UCLA and our experiences.

4. Los Angeles Westside Network
Viewing Party
As a follow up to our highly successful
viewing party for that amazing win in
Nebraska, we’ve officially launched the
UCLA Westside Network’s viewing parties
for away games this season!
Last week’s UCLA at Utah game was
another big win for our boys in blue, and
thanks to our very own Shannon Burns
there were a bunch of Bruins in the house
at Busby’s West to cheer them on again.
So let’s keep it going!
Join fellow Westside Bruins as we cheer
on our nationally ranked UCLA football
team to our best season in years. Our away
game viewing parties are being hosted by
our friends at Busby’s West. They will have
a dedicated space with sound just for us
Bruins. Food and drinks will also be
available for purchase on an individual
basis from the standard menu. Parking is
available in the Busby’s West lot or meters
surrounding the venue for a small fee.
Big shout out to the Westside Network
Sports Committee for their help with
making this happen! If you’re interested
in joining just let us know.
Make sure to wear your Bruin best and
get ready for an 8-clap!

UCLA Volunteer Day
Last month UCLA alumni, incoming
freshman, undergraduates,
graduates, and school faculty joined
forces to particpate in the 5th Anuual
Volunteer Day on September 24,
2013. Volunteers serviced more than
50 sites all across Los Angeles.
UCLA Volunter Center provided
service at food Banks, K-12 schools,
parks, shelters, veteran’s facilities
and community centers.

6. Effective Communication
&
Publlic Speaking Panel
The Westside Network was proud to
provide the third installment of their
Professional Development Panel Series on
Tuesday, October 1, at the Capital One 360
Cafe. The event drew a crowd of 70
attendees, all there to learn and ask
questions about becoming a more effective
communicator and public speaker.
Audience feedback on the speakers and the
event overall were overwhelmingly positive, creating additional opportunity for the
Westside Network to plan its fourth panel.

discussion.
