Is it really important. Why do charities need more awareness?180,000 charities in the UK around 140k of those are under £5m All vying for Fundraising, volunteers, event participants, profile, publicity awarenessWe are going to look at how from a fundraising perspective we work on appeals/campaigns and how these can be utilitised to raise awarenessAs a fundraiser Ive seen lots of campaigns developed but looking at a good strong fundraising ask is difficult.
£70m turnoverHft – what is that all about?High frequency trading?Charity?Fees – what do we do?What is a learning disabiltiy? Example of WaterlooThis is why we need awarenessExample : What is this promoting: “For people who’ skin doesn’t work, we do…”
Example : What is this promoting: “For people whos skin doesn’t work, we do…”OxfamChildrens societyWorld vision
What do you want to achieve? When do you want to achieve it by?What does success look like?Be clear with your aims – for example – do you want to increase your social media presence – if you by how much – how will you measure? Engagement or likes?

Pilot your event in year one – learn from it, build it up – test things, replicate what works, partner with people – e.g we partnered with a nursey to help us develop the resource they then took part….Developing resources – simple to participateSomething that could appeal to everyoneFunSimpleMenu of options to participate – nurseries to nursing homes……
Talk like a Pirate Day….. Hft supports adults with learning disabilities helping them communicate better…..Hft Creatively supporting adults with learning disabilities: Fundraising – TLAPD, Team Extreme, Coming of Christmas….etcYou wont raise any awareness if you don’t link it to the cause.Your campaigns need to be integrated – fundraising, marketing and communications – partnership – not silo working
Your campaigns need to be integrated – fundraising, marketing and communications – partnership – not silo workingWhat do you need to make it work? What does fundraising need – well we need to raise money – we need to be able to present the need, we need to utilise channels to marketWhat does comms need? Good stories – real life stories, quirkiness, imaginsation, realism (e.g that cake bake wont get in the paper” but that cake baked by someone you support whos never done it before might)Merge the online with the offline – simple things – Google Adwords Grant – integrate it with local fundraiser - campaign
Excuses ExcusesExcusesYou can do a lot with very little – social media, join with other days, link with relevant organisations / corporate etcSocial media – partner with a corporate – get them to share it on their Facebook page
Hft Team ExtremeBorn out of the fact last year we had 16 people do Tough mudder, 2 people climb everest base camp…. EtcSimple activities – some no training required, e.g Zip wire, low fundraising expectations, low costs to promote (this was our ad in the Metro £500)
