Setting Objectives: Ralph Tyler's Evaluation Protocols
1.
2. EVALUATION PROTOCOLS
Ralph Tyler - he suggested a number of
considerations when undertaking an evaluation
The followings are his suggestions:
1. Objective Setting- there must be a clear
objective why an evaluation has to be engaged.
3. Setting Objectives:
ï§ Objectives are supportive of goals and state the results of activities
that must be performed to achieve the goals. Objectives are
established jointly with other persons who must support them.
Approval includes common agreement on how the results to be
achieved are to be measured. Objectives are realistic, attainable, and
flow from the goals.
Objectives should be SMARTER:
ï§ S â Specific
ï§ M- Measurable
ï§ A- Attainable
âą R- Realistic
ï§ T- Time- framed
ï§ E- Essential
ï§ R-Relevant
4. 2. Expected Outcomes- are the list of situations which
give the opportunity for the expression of behavior.
3. Appropriateness of Evaluation Tools- an instrument
that would possibly fit both the objective and the
expected outcomes.
4. Validity, Reliability, and Objectivity- are the usual
bases for determining the acceptability of an
evaluation instruments. An evaluation is valid if it
measures what is supposed to measure. It has a
high reliability if it could still be utilize or applied in
future similar situations or events.
5. Some assessment strategies used by teachers:
a. Paper and Pencil Test- (traditional)
b. Performance based Strategy- (alternative)
c. Oral as question and answer
d. Personal Interaction- (authentic)
e. Reflective Journal
