This document provides a generic marking grid for assessing film studies essays on producers and audiences. The grid outlines four levels of criteria for structuring an introduction, discussion, and conclusion and evaluating the knowledge, references, writing quality, and interpretation of source materials displayed in the essay. Level 1 criteria refer to no evidence of knowledge and inaccurate references across more than one page. Level 4 criteria refer to a confident understanding and lively engagement with good interpretations shown in clear writing.
