I believe Amniocentesis is the main cause of our increase in abortion.

2. WHAT is an Amniocentesis Amniocentesis is a procedure performed usually in the beginning of pregnancy to examine a baby's chromosomes. During this procedure, amniotic fluid is removed for testing. Cells within the amniotic fluid are examined in the lab to test for specific fetal disorders. The entire amniocentesis appointment lasts approximately 45 minutes — most of which involves a detailed ultrasound examination.

What can be detected through an Amniocentesis? • Nearly all chromosome disorders, including Down’s Syndrome as well as sex chromosome abnormalities (such as Turner syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome). • Several hundred genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease. The test is not used to look for all of them, but if your baby is at increased risk for one or more of these disorders, in most cases amniocentesis can usually tell you whether he has the disease • Neural tube defects such as spina bifida

5. Is there any Risks with an Amniocentesis? There is a natural miscarriage rate throughout pregnancy. Although it's often estimated to be between one in 200 and one in 400, there's no real consensus on the actual risk of miscarriage due to amniocentesis. One large recent study estimated the risk to be as low as one in 1,600. Because a certain percentage of women will end up miscarrying in the second trimester anyway, there's no way of knowing for sure whether a miscarriage following an amnio was actually caused by the procedure. Your particular risk depends in large part on the skill and experience of the doctor performing the procedure. (Tests, Labs, and People do screw up on things many people abort a healthy baby or have a perfect baby when they thought they were getting say a baby with Down’s Syndrome)

7. 1. The woman's abdomen is cleansed with an antiseptic. 2. The physician may give a local anesthetic to numb the skin. 3. Ultrasound is used to help guide a hollow needle into the amniotic sac. 4. A small sample of fluid is withdrawn for laboratory analysis.

8. You will be offered genetic counselling so that you can get more information and discuss your options. Some women choose to terminate the pregnancy (ABORTION,MURDER,FEDICIDE) while others decide to continue.
