Crusust 2013 Assignment
1. CRUSUST 2013 Assignment
1. The outcome
Create a sustainable cruise tourism model. You are expected to deliver a text by
Thursday and make a presentation on Friday.
2. Important deadlines
Thursday 9:30 – meeting with your coach at the hotel – please communicate your location to
your team coach at dinner time Wednesday.
Thursday 18:00 – deadline for text submission. You can email your text document until this
time to ondra.dufek@gmail.com or hand it in on USB stick at exact time (18:00) to room 108.
Friday 9:30 - first round of presentations. You need to bring your presentation in .PPT format
on USB stick.
2. WARNING – It is possible the internet will be very slow on Thursday. We recommend using only one
computer per group to search on internet and not using internet connection for private purposes. In
fact it is likely that the internet will not be working at all on Thursday. Please take this into account
when planning your activities.
3. Evaluation process
Your project will be evaluated in three steps (A, B and C).
A. First, the text you made will be evaluated by one lecturer (on Thursday evening). Evaluating
final document by one lecturer is divided in three parts:
Project evaluation using criteria – max. 60% - Lecturer has a list of criteria (see
www.slideshare.com/crusust ). For every criterion the lecturer will judge your text based
on two questions:
1. Is the project in this criterion properly connected to selected target group?
2. Is the project in this criterion realistic?
Your project can be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 10 in every criterion (0 to 5 for each
question). The higher you score on a scale, the better your project is. List of evaluated
criteria:
I. Sustainability of project with respect to environment, the local communities
that are visited, human resources, economic sustainability, etc.
II. Description of product with respect to people, physical evidence and processes
(core of the product, USP, connection to target group consumer behaviour,
routes, length of route, start time and date, ships, entertainment, services, food,
events, on land tours, programming, staff, etc.).
III. Description of price (basic price, discounts, expected yearly turnover, cost
analysis etc.). You are expected to make a list of costs, estimate their value and
describe on what your calculation is based.
IV. Description of place (used ports, home port, types of distribution,
transportation to/from ports, etc.).
V. Description of promotion (communication mix, etc.).
VI. Company background and corporate identity (name, logo, home port, size of
company, business model, etc.).
Project evaluation based on role – max. 20% (scale 0 to 20) - every lecturer acts as an
investor and decides whether to invest in your project or not.
3. Evaluation of document typography and design – max. 20% (scale 0 to 20)
Line spacing: 1,5.
Font size: 11.
Font type: Calibri or similar.
Alignment: Block.
Minimum length: 15 000 characters (including spacing).
All information that comes from external sources should get a source
reference number.
The document must contain a list of all these sources.
Type of document: PDF.
The first page with name of the project and students list and countries.
The second page contains abstract - between 750 and 1000 characters
(including spacing). An abstract is a brief description of your project, the most
important issues you addressed and the outcome.
B. Next all projects will be randomly divided in two different groups. Projects in each of the
two groups will compete on Friday. Presentations in each of the two groups run at the same
time but at different places. Time limit for this presentation is 15 minutes and every student
must take an equal share. From every group of four presentations one project will be chosen
to compete in the final round.
All four presentations in each group will be evaluated by a group of lecturers (three or four):
Project evaluation using criteria – max. 60% (six times scale 0 to 10) - see above.
Project evaluation based on role – max. 20% (scale 0 to 20) - see above.
Evaluation of project presentation – max. 20% (scale 0 to 20) - presentation skills,
enthusiasm, design, etc.
The result of this evaluation will be added to the evaluation resulting from paragraph A:
C. In the final round the best project of each group will compete. Projects will be evaluated by
lectures and students of the remaining projects together. Presentation time limit in the final
round is 15 minutes. You are free to make any changes to your initial presentation. Not only
the contents but also the way of presenting can be changed.
All lecturers and students (except the finalists) are investors looking for THE ONE project
to support with their money. The more investors you get on your side, the better. The
project that convinced the most investors is the overall winner.
There is a prize for the winning team!
