In May 2006, the City Commission unanimously agreed to adopt the Final Report and instructed the city's planning staff to convert the report's recommendations into adoptable city code. In 2007 the Commission approved the new zoning. Mayor Perlman says it is their economic future - the job base, a major source of workforce housing and a tremendous source of tax base.
As a whole, the area has a mix of land uses and zoning designations that could provide for a functional, separate community but the hodgepodge of uses does not contribute to a sense of place or feeling of being in a neighborhood. County planning staff has worked with developers for over a year in an attempt to develop a voluntary plan for the area.
