When applying for any kind of career there is usually an interview process you must take in order to see if you meet the requirements for that job.The 3 sections I will be discussing about are Before the Interview, During the Interview, and After the Interview. All three sections are equally important and without using each one effectively it is less likely you will have a successful interviewStarting with Before the interview, you should always practice what you’re going to say to someone when applying for a position. Stumbling over your words or having to think for a long enough time about what you want to say could throw the interview off and won’t look good.Next, look sharp for the interview. This shows that you care about the position you are competing for and that could easily allow you to stand out over anyone else which could give you an edge.Third of all, plan your arrival in advance to the meeting. Just in case traffic is bad or there is an emergency, you will still be able to get to the interview on time or early with that being one less thing to worry about. Finally, before the interview you want to make sure you don’t over think or put too much stress on yourself. Go to bed early the night before and eat a well balanced meal before the interview so you have the energy you need to be ready for whatever comes your way.
Now, when you get to the interview on time make sure you listen very closely to everything the interviewer is saying to you and read his body language if he is giving any. Interrupting someone who could possibly give you a position at their company is the last thing you want to do which could sacrifice your chances of getting the job. When it is your turn to talk and reply to the questions being asked, say it with confidence and be honest. It is easy to tell if most people are lying and if the interviewer gets the feeling you are than that could alter the mood of the interview in a negative way.If you happen to be standing or sitting make sure your posture is nice and straight. If the interviewer catches you sloutching or in an irregular position it gives them the idea that you don’t want to be there showing disrespect. The next thing is loosen up. Don’t be afraid to crack a smile every now and then. This assures that the interview is going well and it shows them that you like where the interview is headed. It is small things like smile that can be remembered during an interview.Lastly, have questions ready to ask at the end of the interview. If you show the interviewer you are concerned about something than it lets them know that you were a good listener and secondly it shows that you really want the job.
After the job interview is completed, shake the interviewers hand and thank them for their time. This shows that you have good morals and enjoyed being in their presence. For the next couple of days try and not think about what you said or analyze yourself about how the interview went. What was said was said and there is nothing you can do about it now except wait for that phone call saying you got the job.Next, if you haven’t already, take a look around at where you might be working the rest of your life. Becoming familiar with the staff and the work environment is essential if you want stay at this job for years to come.Third, follow up with your boss or interviewer by phone a couple days after the interview. Do not send an email because it doesn’t stand out and plus you never know when they will get around to their emails. By direct communication on the phone it shows that you are more interested than your opponents and hearing your voice again could make you stand out from others who did not follow up after the interview. The last thing you want to do after an interview is receive the phone call saying you either got the job or you didn’t. Don’t take it personal if you don’t. Nobody gets every job they apply for and furthermore take it as a learning experience. Communication in an interview is a vital skill to have and if you can do it properly and master the interview than you are one step closer in handling a career in communications.
