Agile Development for Output Management Solutions
from CA Technologies
§ When a “critical mass” of agile features have been released and validated
by customers, the agile phase of the development process will end and
the product will transition into a “mature release”:
- The development team may or may not choose to have a beta.
- A “mature release” behaves like today’s supported releases.
- Sustaining engineering will deliver corrective fixes, migration and toleration
support when necessary.
§ The development team will shift to the next incremental release.

What is the CA Incremental Release Program?
§ It allows deliverables to be generated by the agile development process.
§ It is available to any customer who agrees to participate in the agile
process and agree to product deployment rules.
§ It is fully supported by normal CA support processes. The customer can
deploy to any environment, including production.
§ New functions (agile features) are released every few sprints, when the
development and customer teams decide that there is sufficient new
capability to package and release for customer consumption. It uses
standard SMP/E packaging (for z/OS based content).

Why sprint incremental releases?
§ Products can deliver, verify and correct new features more quickly and in
smaller increments.
§ Enhancement requests can be made available more quickly.
§ CA can reduce the volume of corrective fixes delivered through the service
stream:
– Corrective fixes can be delivered with the next Agile Feature (with customer
consent) rather than shipping via individual corrective PTFs
– Having customers focus on features as released and over a longer period of time
will naturally lead to earlier discovery of issues, (implementation problems,
coding errors, usability concerns, etc., nearer the time of original coding

Release Enhancements
NEW Features

Enhancement—AFP to PCL Soft Font Support for the
CA Spool™ Java Transformers
§ Support for building PCL soft fonts from 300 pel AFP fonts and including
them as part of the output PCL file
§ Only font characters which are used are included in the output file
Why is this important for you to Know?
When first designed there were two possibilities:
a) The font had to be correlated to a font already resident on the target printer.
This could result in the loss of fidelity.
b) A bitmap or rasterized version of every character was included in the input file.
This resulted in very large output PCL files.
The new result now retains fidelity to the original file that printer resident fonts may not
and only the actual data needed is sent of course resulting in a smaller output file.

The Node Definition Changes to Use This Feature
TRANSFRM parameter options:
s Specifies that AFP to PCL Soft Font support is used for this node.
r Writes a detailed Transformer report as a CA Spool™ file.
w The w option is required for nodes that drive the transformation of files
for the Batch Transformer Utility.
V Adds trace entries related to AFP to PCL Soft Font processing to the
D2ETRACE sysout file. V can be used without specifying any D2E_TRACE
environment variable.

Enhancement- AFP USERLIB and Remote Support for
Java™ Transformers
§ The Java Transformers may now be run remote on any system running a
Linux® kernal, for example Z/Linux. All the same functionality as running
them on Z/OS® is still there.
§ You may now code a USERLIB dataset on the JCL OUTPUT statement or
DESTID DUERLIBn/FUSERLIBn parameters for the AFP input files. On the
remote Java transformers all USERLIB members are copied to temporary
input subdirectory. It is recommended that the USERLIB you point to in this
case contains only the needed resource members.
§ This allows a more flexible print scenario. It also allows for the transformation
cycles to be off loaded if mainframe CPU cycles are a concern.

Enhancement- CA DRAS & CA Spool Java Transformers
Performance Improvements:
§ This new CA DRAS and CA Spool™ transformer interface automatically
transforms IBM® AFP, Xerox Metacode and text reports stored in the CA
View database to Adobe PDF files during loading. This means the only plugin
needed on the work station is Adobe Reader.
§ The current CA Output Management Web Viewer AFP-PDF transformer
support is handled by CA DRAS and CA View. It is limited to ACIF processed
AFP Reports.
§ After upgrading to the Web Viewer release 12.0, Xerox Metacode reports
stored in CA View are no longer able to be viewed.

Enhancement—DD command Display Destid
§ The new DD command displays the DESTID settings according to your
selection criteria. To specify this criteria, you use optional operands,
including file sequential number, user ID, destination, class and filename.
§ Destid’s can be widely used in CA Spool to capture specific inputs and
“change” parms to other values. Being now able to display these capture
values can enhance the users productivity when debugging or tracing a file
through CA Spool.

The DD command syntax
§ This command has the following format:
DD[Fnnnnnn] [,U=uuuuuuuu] [,D=dddddddd] [,Q=q] [,O=oooooooo]
Fnnnnnn
Specifies the sequence number of the file for DESTID display.
U=
Specifies the userid for the DESTID display.
Specify a 1-8 character alphanumeric string. This operand specifies the highest priority selection criteria for the DESTID
search.
D=
Specifies the destination name for the DESTID display.
Specify a 1-8 character alphanumeric string. This operand specifies the second highest priority selection criteria for the
DESTID search.
Q=
Specifies the output class for the DESTID display. The output class is a single character in the range A-Z or 0-9.
This operand specifies the third highest priority selection criteria for the DESTID search.
O=
Specifies the filename for DESTID display.
The filename is a 1-8 character alphanumeric string.
This operand specifies the lowest priority selection criteria for the DESTID search.

The DD Sample Output
The following example displays the closest matching DESTID
setting when the selection criteria are file sequence number 12
and destination and user ID file attributes. The file sequence
number overrides the additional selection criteria:
– DDF12,D=B54131DA,U=B54131UA
– ESF890 DESTID QUSERID=B54131UA,
– ESF890 QDEST=B54131DA,
– ESF890 FDEST=DEST2
– ESF890 END-OF-DISPLAY

Enhancement—DESTVAL=DYNAPDIP DEST=‘IP:ipaddr’
Support for DESTVAL=DYNAPDIP initialization parameter to activate special DEST='IP:ipaddr' APD
- Automatic Printer Definition support for DEST='IP:ipaddr' printers.
A DYNAPDIP-added printer is automatically deleted when no more files are queued to the printer,
so a REINIT command does not delete the added printer, however a REINIT is supported for
DYNAPDIP printers.
When an output with DEST='IP:ipaddr' is received, a corresponding APD printer is automatically
defined (if it is not already defined). Up to the DYNDISP=nnnnn value.
You are also able to assign default printer attributes to DYNAPDIP-added printers, by defining a
DEFNODE with APDNODE=#*.
DEFNODE HPLU1,XX-HPLU1, ... APDNODE=HP%P*
DEFNODE SCS,3287, ... ,APDNODE=HP*
DEFNODE PRINTER,3287, ...

Enhancement—Email with Multiple Attachments
The new SMTP driver parameter, MAILCOMB=FILENAME/GROUPID/USERID,
sends one email with email attachments for all queued files that have the
same FILENAME, GROUPID or file creator’s USERID and have the same TO=,
CC= and BCC= email parameters.
If XEQGRPID=JOBID and MAILCOMB=GROUPID are specified (same TO=, CC=
and BCC= is the additional condition), all the files generated by a given batch
job are sent in one email (as multiple attachments).
A recipient is no longer inundated with multiple emails from the same batch
job or reports created at the same time. Of course this also cuts down the
amount of SNMTP and network traffic.

Enhancement—Java Transformer Resource Cache Flush
Added support for Java Transformer Resource Cache flushing to REINIT
processing. The REINIT command, without any parameters, informs the
attached Java Transformer FSS tasks to empty their resource caches.
The REINIT,FSS[,fssname|*ALL] command refreshes the resource cache for a
specific FSS task or all FSS tasks, without performing any other REINIT
processing.
This causes the cache to be reloaded when the resource is needed again. This
allows for changes to be made and implemented easier.

Enhancement—Java Transformer Resource Cache Flush
Extended existing support to specify certain port ranges reserved for printing.
Use the LPORT parameter, specified by the printer’s DRIVPRM1-4 parameters,
as follows:
DEFNODE LPR,TCP-LPR,DRIVPRM1='LPORT=(1300-1349,1600-1699,721-731)',
TCPDRIVE=LPR,CLASS=ALL,ACQUIRE=WORK,RELEASE=NOWORK
NODE HP6L,LPR,GROUP=3
This allows for more work to process through at one time.

Enhancement—Java Transformers now support any to
any data stream conversion.
The Original transformers only supported AFP, Metacode/DJDE/LCDS, PCL,
PostScript and PDF.
NOW ALSO SUPPORTED ARE:
TIFF, Images, PDF/A and HTML/CSS
This now will allow for an even wider possibility of output formats for even
wider uses. Basically you now have five input types that can be transformed
to nine output types.

Here are how the Parsers and Generators break down
§ Parsers:
—PCL – Parses HP PCL print-streams including PCL 5 and PCL 6 (PCL XL)
—PDF – Parses input Adobe PDF 1.0 to 1.6 files (Acrobat 7.0 or earlier)
—TIFF – Parses industry-standard multi-page TIFF Class B, G, P and R formats
Also parses 1, 2, 16, 256, RGB and CMYK color depths
Supports CCITT Group4 and Group3 compression
■ Generators:
– AFP – Generates AFP MO:DCA-P output
– Image – Generates single page color image output files
Supports PNG, TIFF and JPEG
– Metacode—Generates Metacode/DJDE (Dynamic Job Descriptor Entry) output
– PDF/A – Generates Adobe PDF output that is compliant with the
PDF/A-1b (ISO 19005-1:2005) standard
– TIFF – Generates single or TIFF Class B output files
Supports CCITT Group4 compression and any resolution (dpi)
– Web – Generates HTML output with CSS

Release Enhancements
Updates to Existing Features

Enhancement—Increased X2YYDEF MAXTASK
The maximum number of concurrent transformations for the X2YYDEF
MAXTASK parameter has been increased from 10 to 20. The X2YYDEF
MAXTASK parameter defines the maximum number of concurrent
transformations for an FSS.
This increases the number of transformations that can occur at one time.

Enhancement—NJE Interface TCP/IP support
The NJE interface now supports TCP/IP. Prior this was an SNA only interface:
§ The INIT Parm NJESERV is used to specify to use the TCP/IP protocol
§ The NJE INIT parm now lets you define remote NJE TCP/IP nodes
§ Can use either SSL or TLS to encrypt the data
Note: Before using this feature you must apply IBM APAR OA45891.
This Allows for a faster and wider used NJE node connections.

Enhancement—New BATCH Transformer Option & PDF
Wrapper limits
The Batch Transformer utility has been enhanced to use a new option “I” on
the A2PD transformations:
§ This option when used with the d2eproj to break an output PDF into
multiple files causes each file to be written as a member of a PDS.
§ This option is discussed in detail in the Java Transformer Admin Guide.
The PDF Text Wrapper has been enhanced to now handle more pages:
§ The new limit is 262,141 page output files, up from 32,760 pages.
This allows greater flexibility to transfer large amounts of PDF’s as say one
XMIT file and larger text files “wrapped” into a PDF.

Enhancement—FTP Printer Driver Using SSL and New
Security Pass Phrases
The configuration for FTP can now support FTPS. This of course would now use
SSL/TLS to transfer the data. An FTPDATA keyword has been added to allow a custom
FTP.DATAdataset to be used for environment settings.
External security can now be called with pass phrase authentication instead of just
passwords. This can be done with any of the 3 major security packages. The phrase
can be up to 100 characters in length. When “turned on,” a user can authenticate with
either a password or a pass phrase.
Important! CA ACF2 R15 (Z/OS) sites must apply APAR RO38461 to implement
password phrases. CA ACF2 R14 (Z/OS) must apply APAR RO22977.
Pass Phrases are considered to be more secure than just an eight character password.
Of course transmitting data using SSL/TLS is sending data encrypted.

Enhancement—Updated Commands
The following commands have been updated:
1) “C” command to cancel NJE activity. This now aligns more closely to the JES2 $C
command. When issued, the partner node no longer holds the files. They are purged.
2) The D,nodename (display Node command). It now shows the TRANSFRM and
DRIVPRM1-4 printer node parm options.
3) The REINIT command can be issued to limit what is actually refreshed. REINIT,PRT can
change one printer, a group of printers or all printers. REINIT [,PRT [,*ALL |
,printername | ,GROUP=nnn]]
The ESF881 message indicates the status of the REINIT,PRT command. CA Spool checks the
syntax of all DEFNODE and NODE statements that the command affects. CA Spool reports
syntax errors and duplicate definitions even if the incorrect definitions are not the target
of the REINIT,PRT command.

Enhancement—New PAX File Format
The installation PAX file has been broken out into several pieces depending on
whether you are in need of the transformers or not.
The BASE PAX file now contains only the following three FMIDS:
§ CBQ4C00: CA Spool™ base product
§ CCSRC00: LPD component
§ ASARB75: SAS/C Runtime Loadlib
The Transformer Interfaces PAX file has the following required FMIDS:
§ CE0CC00: Java Transformers Engine and Configuration parameters (USS)
§ CFD2C00: C Transformers Interface and Configuration parameters
§ CFD3C00: Java Transformers Interface, Configuration parameters (z/OS)
and the Batch Transformer utility

Enhancement—Updated Features Since the GA Release
§ Web interface support for Z/OS 2.2
- Uses Apache Tomcat HTTP Server
- PTF RO83091
§ New DEFTOUSR parameter
- Specifies the action to perform when an email has no TO= value defined
§ Can specify to hold it or send it to the userid that created the file
- PTF RO82670
These are two very useful new features.
Since the GA release, two additional features are now available:

What Is Next?

Enhancement—How CA Spool Does an Incremental
Release
All features of CA Spool™ in essence have been created using a PTF method
(increments).
For example, since 11.7, many PTF’s have been created which combined make
up these new features. The Release Guide also will give you a list of the
documentation PTF’s that were included into the release 12.0 guides. The
high PTF is as of September 23rd 2015 is RO84439.
When new features are developed for CA Spool they will be released as a PTF
that will allow you to be able to use and test this new feature without having
to do a full blown install.
